Will state farm let me file a claim if machine broke like you can if you bought squaretrade?

state farm home insurance? treated like any other personal possession on your property i'd imagine. check your insurance policy.

The break even point for making a claim on your home owners policy is usually much higher than the cost of a new Mini.

What do you mean?

Unless the deductible for your homeowner's insurance is less than the cost of a new Mac Mini (and you are willing to bet that they won't raise your rates if you file a claim), then it isn't worth insuring via State Farm. I haven't used Square Trade, but everyone here says they are great.

I do everything in my power to avoid filing a homeowner's claim, but maybe that's just because those of us in Hurricane Prone Florida have insurance issues!

No this won't be on their homeowners policy would be under a different term that they use.

Many homeowners policies include an optional rider for coverage on specific things. I have a policy on my computer that's deductible free and runs me $8 per year:

Personal Computer

Provides additional computer coverage not automatically included in a homeowners or renters policy. Events like fire, lightning, windstorm, theft and vandalism are already covered by homeowners and renters policies. Additional Computer Coverage offers protection against drops and spills that cause damage to your computer.

Seems worth it to me.

I got a email from a state farm rep she said it would cost me $15 a year. Then I get other emails from other state farm reps saying $25-50 a year so I go with $15
