This is how it is now. BTOs are for processor speed bumps and bigger RAM. Check your Apple Store online. :)

No, the only stores that carry 256GB are the ones selling the ultimate configuration, so you're also paying for RAM and CPU upgrades when all you may want is the extra Flash drive space. I would guess the lack of 4GB RAM standard allows Apple Stores to sell a large percentage of ultimate MBAs when otherwise people would just pay for the RAM upgrade, and the same is true of all three upgrades available - if it makes Apple more money to only offer basic or ultimate, that is all they will make available in the stores.

I want the ultimate configuration. Of the three Apple stores in Orlando, I just hope one will have it.

I fear that when I call they won't even know what I'm talking about.

I bought mine from the Apple store in VA. I checked 2 stores here and both had ultimate configuration models.
