I might be in New York for a single day on the 1st of May. What is the best way of securing a pickup in the 5th Avenue Store (which I'm told is open 24 hours a day)? The WiFi version seemed to have stock left in store following the first day. What's the prediction for the 3g?

I predict some store will have them and others won't.

How the hell does anyone here know what stock levels will be on May 1?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7E18 Safari/528.16)

I would say that store would be sold out.

Of course no one knows about stock levels on the 1st of May. I'm just seeking a consensus based on what happened with the WiFi version. I also wanted to find out if it's still possible to reserve for a store pickup.

I would say you probably will have no problem. As for stock levels at the fifth avenue store, they have not run out of any product (I don't believe), as of yet.

No reserves for in-store pickup for the 3G yet. Rumor is, people were pissed that there were two lines, so they won't repeat that. Who knows if that is true?

My school's bookstore sold wifi iPads and even though they only got around 20 they didn't sell all of them for a couple weeks. There will surely be some, trick will be knowing where.

That wouldn't surprise me, I did find the reservation thing kind of odd. Also, the first iPad was a morning release right? If it is later in the day it would seem to make more sense to have it a first-come style.

I think you have a better chance to win the lottery...or get struck by a lightening bolt!

5th Avenue store had the WiFi version available on day 2. Are you saying that the demand will be greater for the 3G version?

Actually I don't know, but I do think the 3G demand will be strong out of the gate.

Agreed..I think the 3G demand will be very strong out of the gate, possibly stronger. I'll be waiting online at 5th ave on the 30th for my 3G.

I'm imagining there could be more demand for the 3G version. I for one certainly don't like it once I leave the confines of a network with my iPad.

NO problem at all.

I wandered into 5th avenue on ipad launch day around 3pm and picked up an pad no problem

On Iphone launch day I wandered into 5th avenue aftere midnight (drunk) and bought an iphone no problem.

I figure the flagship store is always a fairly good bet even on day 1

The 5th avenue store has been unable to keep the iPad in stock in recent weeks at least.
