I haven't seen one of these threads in a while and was curious:

What are the essential iPhone apps/tweaks you use and would recommend for others?

I have a few of the basic ones (springtomize, ccsettings, adblocker, ifile) but I'm not a master like many of the jailbreak forum members here and would like to know your essential ones you would recommend for others :)

Thanks in advance for your replies!

dnsmasq and pixelserv. Together I get excellent ad blocking that is better than a host block, faster DNS resolves (useful on slow connections), and the ability to NetBoot Mac OS X or PXE boot Linux from my iPhone.

You sure are a technically gifted person Intell. Wish I was as smart as you to be able to do stuff like that :(

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll have to look into those and see if I can get them to work better than adblocker.

There's nothing special about it. iOS is largely the same as Mac OS X, but with a different GUI. All the underpinnings and subsystems are the same. If a program binary doesn't exist, compile it for iOS using Xcode or an on device compiler. Because of this, iOS is extremely flexible and able when looked at from a UNIX point of view.

This thread took me seventeen seconds to get from, "Ah, cool! I love tweak idea threads like this!" to, "Ah, dang. Another thread that is severely over my pay scale."

Holy crap Asator! Thank you so much for taking all the time it took to write this post! So many times people just write a list of names and that's it... but I am very grateful you not only did that but also explained each of them and their prices. I haven't gone through the whole list yet but I'm sure I will find something useful by you and for that I am very grateful :)

f.lux. Although, I have to admit that with Eclipse, I don't really need it now.

Asator, thank you for that detailed list. BetterNC7 changed one of the remaining things I absolutely loathed about iOS 7--and I didn't know that tweak existed until your post!

Three that I don't think have been mentioned yet: Gesture Music Controls (if you're on 7.1.2, you'll need to find the older deb to install, the one on Cydia doesn't work), Blurred Music App, and CustomCover. These three together make the music app more attractive and more functional, and Gesture Music Controls also makes it easy to swipe through your songs in the CC and on the lockscreen (as well as in the music app). No more trying to hit a tiny button to go forward or back, just swipe across the song title area.

OK. Here's a music tweak I use that I never really see mentioned.

It's called PowerPLAY and it's available on Cydia. It's free.

What it does is it assigns Activator actions to the volume buttons that control your music app. Hold down volume up briefly, next track. Hold down volume down briefly, previous track. Both volume buttons press simultaneously means pause. Press them simultaneously again and play will resume. There are a few others such as fast forward and rewind, but I rarely use those so I'm not sure which actions control them. PowerPLAY works on the lockscreen and everywhere else. If the music app is not open and you press the buttons for one of the actions it will open the music app and begin playing your music. It will do that even if the phone is locked.

Anyway, I never use the music app. You probably then wonder why I have the tweak installed. Well…I do use Google Play and every Google Music player I have ever used in the app store can be controlled with this tweak. I have never tested Spotify or Pandora with it, but I think it may control them too. I speculate that PowerPLAY will control almost any app in the app store that uses the basic features of STOP, PLAY, Next track and Previous track.

This to me is highly useful when I stream music because all I have to do is work the volume buttons. I never have to look at my screen. Oh yeah. Works on iOS 7.1.2.

Here's Cydia's brief on it.

Another favorite to add: NoNewMark. Gets rid of the blue dot next to newly updated apps. Dear Apple--I really don't need to know about these since I update manually!

You can do all of this with activator :s

I thought someone might say that and you are correct. However, installing PowerPLAY meant I didn't have to make the assignments myself.

Yet, as soon as you open the app for the first time the blue dot goes away, right?

:D Of course. But I tend to update infrequently, so there might be 20 or more blue dots. Then my springboard pages look like they have some weird blue form of measles.

It's a minor thing, but it makes a big difference for those of us annoyed by it. LOL
