I need a mac mini for music production/logic pro and a dual core is def.not going to cut it.

I don't want to buy used so I'm hoping Apple gets back to a quad core mini sooner rather than later.

What do you guys think the odds are of this happening within 6 months? Can't wait longer than that.

Any reason to think the mini gets refreshed soon?

Right only Apple knows but I wonder if there's a pattern of past releases we can go by or look at new chip announcements as a sign of hope.

Best Buy and Frys have had huge price drops on the 2014 mini lately. Does Apple usually allow that when a new production is about to be launched? Just looking for signs of hope.

I wouldn't put no stock inside of BBY or Fry's retail sales .. They're trying there hardest to figure out the supply chain of Apple etc ... The only true company that knows whats coming from Apple is Apple ... KGI's Kuo is in the same boat as BBY n Frys..

BBY n Fry's are trying to think ahead of next Mac launch and trying to reduce their Apple supply pipe to try get higher in the chain -- quicker resupply of new products...

Yea but only Apple can authorize and dictate when retailers drop prices on their products. They have special map price protections in place.

I am expecting Skylake Mini's in Oct/Nov.

Other than 2013, they usually release update it around fall.

You are thinking this OCTOBER? As in, next month? Man, that is wishful thinking. Would be sweet.

At the top of the MacRumors website is a button labeled "Buyer's Guide", click on that and you can review the release history of various Apple devices and computers. 2005 - Jan, July, Sept
2006 - Feb, Sept
2007 - Aug
2009 - Mar, Oct
2010 - June
2011 - July
2012 - Oct
2014 - Oct

Doesn't usually seem to be any time; could be anytime.

Fine but I still think October/November.

Sandy Bridge was released in January/February of 2011, Mac Mini update in July 2011
Ive Bridge was released late 2011 but in volume with right processors for Mini in May - April of 2012, Mac Mini Update Oct 2012

Haswell released Aug 2013? - Mac Mini 2014 October :p

2010 & 2011 have a valid reason for being apart from the release schedule.

If Apple has the new Mac Mini ready, we will see it October.November. If not then we will be waiting till March.

I agree with Crzyrio, if there's no announcement in October (either with a release in October or November), then expect something early next year.

Personally I'm hoping it's October, with October release. Otherwise I'll probably get last year's model which will serve me fine for my needs as a simple file server/VPN server, but I would prefer to get a little newer hardware.

There's no pattern, other than Intel's release schedule, and even that is tenuous at best.

I wouldn't hold your breath on a new quad core Mini; I think the two models that had them were the exception to the norm instead of the norm.

Ah, screw it. I decided after making that post that I should just install some new RAM and an SSD boot drive in my 2011 mini server.

Hard drive replacement is not easy, holy crap, but after dismantling the entire thing to do the replacement, cleaning parts as I went, the box is running quieter and cooler, noticeably faster, and I saved a bunch of money too over getting a new mini (last year's model, or a hypothetical new one). As I said, it's just a server, so I don't care at all about GPU performance or anything like that. Besides saving a little money, I also saved myself possibly a lot of heartache waiting for a new mini to come out.
