I haven’t been following precise leaks for the M4 family other than knowing that they’re strongly rumored to be coming to Mac this fall. I was wondering if there had been any word on RAM configurations, or if not, if people were getting the impression that RAM quantities were going to be increasing. I know we saw a bump from 32gb to 36gb with M3 Pro, but I’m hopeful that M4 will introduce a memory bump at every “tier” for Apple Intelligence. If that happens and there’s a 48gb option available, it’ll be fantastic for me, but I’m just not sure how realistic expecting that or anything close to that will be. Maybe expecting 40gb is more realistic. If there’s no point waiting, I may as well press forward with a discounted purchase right now.

Buy as much RAM or as Apple calls it Unified Memory as you can afford. I bought a M2 with 64 and it has not hampered me at all whereas I bought a base model Mac M1 the year before wanting to get off a Intel and it it is slow. I also suggest if you can afford it buy something with at least a 2TB SSD. With a 1 TB you might have to buy a good SSD to back up what you don't really need on the 1 TB SSD, since iCloud as fas as I am concerned is not a backup solution, other than for backing up your iPhone or iPad if you have reinstall.
