User dogslobber asked in the Apple Seeds Third OS X 10.11.4 El Capitan Beta to Developers thread "What are those apps in the menu bar?"

I thought that was a good question. Here is my menu bar:

menubar.jpg

Cookie.
Nvidia Web Driver
Audio Switcher
Flux
DNS Crypt
Little Snitch

And the green one all the way to the right:
Viscosity

Anyone else?

DNS Crypt

That’s a good one, never heard of it before. My provider’s DNS works just fine and I found the setup and maintenance of a public DNS always a bit too annoying. This is actually a fantastic helper application.

I use most of the other applications already and I can recommend them as well, particularly Little Snitch and Cookie. I can also suggest Amphetamine, Magnet and Dropshelf.

Still a few I don't know, for instance Shimo VPN client and Monosnap.

Just FYI, get rid of CleanMyMac, it is crap, and not needed at all for OS X, it has been said many times it's rubbish.

What is that wheel at the bottom, far right? I have an icon looking exactly like that flashing for a brief moment once in a while on my menu bar. I have grown suspicious of it since I don't know what it is :)

That’s usually a sign that an Automator script is executed. Apple uses these too for some services, folder actions and so forth. Usually nothing to worry about.

Shimo is a VPN client. OS X has one built in, but this one is a lot more powerful and supports OpenVPN too. It’s quite expensive though and if you want something cheaper, you should look at Viscosity.

Is there any way to list Automator scripts running on the machine? Maybe a Terminal command or something?
