I upgraded yesterday first but had some graphics weirdness happening, so I clean installed last night.

I did an upgrade but want to do a clean install. I could get rid of a ton of useless stuff and start over.

Question for the experts: I split my Mac Mini HDD into 2 partitions (Mavs+Yosemite). Now that I totally dig Yosemite I want to go back to 1 partition. But Disk Utility won't let me.

When I boot into DU and attempt to go to 1 partition I get a failed unmount error, so it won't let me go back to 1 partition. Any ideas what i'm doing wrong or overlooking? I got back into Macs last year so i'm a wee bit rusty.

Believe it or not my main machine late 2011 mbp, I only did one fresh install and been upgrading from lion until mavericks. Gonna hold upgrading with yosemite.

How does doing a clean install affect itunes?

In terms of apps and linked phones/pads and in terms of music and film? Will i have to re add every playlist, album and film again?

just copy EVERYTHING from music folder to somewhere else, clean install, copy everything back TO music folder and THEN launch iTunes. it will be identical to how it was before. done this since tiger, always worked. Just be sure to create account name identical to what it was on Mavericks.

I have 15 inch late 2008 Macbook Pro, I upgraded from Mavericks last night. No issue at all, everything went very smooth.

Might install it on my Mini, but havent decided if I'd go upgrade or clean. I'd prefer to not loose all my Messages.

I did an in-place upgrade on my production Mac; went without a hitch.

Full/clean installed are for Windows goonies; the OS X (unix) platform is a much stronger upgrade base, with its apps not being so interlinked with OS files (as with the case of Windows).

This is a question for the experts:

I would like to do a clean install, but I have some programs that were a "1 time install only" i.e.: Word for Mac that I was able to obtain for cheap while in school. If I install a clean version of Yosemite, is there a way to transfer a program back? Possibly from a TM backup? And lastly, I see most posters state to install from a thumb drive, can anyone give an EASY step by step tutorial on how to do this? At this time I feel comfortable restoring all my other programs except for Word, and I would really like to save my self some $ by not having to buy it again. Thanks!
