Apart from the obvious, I am absolutely delighted that Firewire 800 has returned to the 15", my laptop is my only machine now and I have about 80GB of music and 120GB of photos so I rely heavily on an external drive and was worried about downgrading to FW400 if I got a MBP.

The larger HDD is also welcome as is the 3GB memory option.

Anyway I have just ordered one with this spec;

2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
3GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM-1x2GB,1x1GB
160GB Serial ATA Drive@5400rpm
SuperDrive 6X
15 Glossy Widescreen Display
Apple USB Modem
BkLit Keyboard/Mac OS-B
Country Kit-GBR

Looking forward to taking it out of the box :)

Everything about the new Rev made me regret buying my 15 MBP last month and not waiting for the Core2Duo except now there's no 7200RPM HD option in the 15's.

Alas, patience is always the answer, but I wanted my hands on it right away haha.

What are you most pleased to see in today's MBP rev?

...an end to the "when will the MBPs be updated" threads ;)

Obviously I'm delighted to see that they finally released them. This will be my first Mac since 2001.

I'll be heading out to the Apple store this afternoon to get one - It'll be a 15 incher.

I'm also very happy to see that 1gig of ram is standard and they offer 120gb harddrive to boot, fantastic!

Happy days! :D

Happy to see:

the faster core 2 duo
160 gb or 200 gb BTO options for hard drives
more ram included affordably (except 3 gb option, very lame price)
airplane adapter. very needed.

Disappointed: no new graphics chip.

Coming this spring? New model, Santa Rosa, new case, new GPU, blu-ray

And yes, and end to the speculation on when new model was coming

Shut up! You're going to start it now?! I don't want to swim through threads of "When is the Santa Rosa MacBook Pro coming out." I've had enough of that.

I was put off the 200GB HDD because of the slow speed. I have the 7200RPM in my PB right now and wouldn't want to drop that far!

The costly 3GB RAM option is no doubt down to the fact that it calls for a 2 gig chip. I went for it though on the basis that you can never have too much RAM, and to compensate for the fact that I am a year older and my organic RAM is shrinking ;)

I like the more reasonable price and 1GB comes standard on 15" models. Though I'm getting one, I just get all excited when new stuff comes out.

Never even knew they got an update until I saw this thread. I must say, this is what the MBP should have been (minus the C2D of course). I like that the 15" finally got a DL DVD burner and FW800. The standard ram and hard drives are nice also. A good update in my opinion.
I'm happy to see this, I plan on rebuying an MBP next year, hoping for some cool updates in 6 months or so (my purchase is going to coincide with Leopards release, so hopefully a new MBP is out by then).

I too was not patient and bought one around 2 weeks ago. I am happy to see that it comes standart w/ 1 gig of ram and the dual layer burner is nice. It seems that the processor speed isnt as signifigant to warrent waiting so long. Perhaps the potential release in the spring will be a little better.

Finally I have arrived.....
The news is so fresh still. As this settles in as hours go by, I am sure we start hearing lots of buyer's remorse threads from people who purchased Core Duo (now outdated officially)MBP this month or last month. Of course, there would be more threads on Core Duo MBP owners' rationalization of their purchasing decisions.
For me, this update is quite nicely done by Apple. 160 GB hard drive, 400/800 FW ports for both 15" and 17", in additional to apparent benefit of C2D chip. I think people were patient would be rewarded with nicer machines.

I'm just gunna say well don't sit around moaning about it.. put your MBP on ebay and then go and get a job / a better paying one / Get a loan / Rob a bank! to make the diffrence up!

Right now if someone gave me a core duo macbook pro I would say "Holy crap thank you so much I absolutly &*%&ing love it and right now I couldnt give a £$%* about core 2 duo because someone you gave me the best gift ever! Sure a core 2 duo would be better but who cares this baby can do EVERYTHING I need it to do!"
Edit: The best thing about this upgrade I think is the fact Apple cares about its customers and is actually releasing updates rather than forcing all of its customers to have old technology until they bring out a major update like leopard!

Comments about the 15" MacBook Pro.

Pleased to see:
* FireWire 800 (about time)
* Dual Layer SuperDrive (again, about time. Even if its only a 6x)

NOT pleased to see:
* No 7200rpm hdd BTO option (only 5400 and 4200rpm)

Guess I will have to pass this one as well! :(
I have been waiting a long time for the 15" PowerBook G4 replacer, but it has still not been released (with FW800, 8x DL SuperDrive, and a 7200rpm hdd).

I am glad to see the FW800 return, the standard 1 gb memory with 3 gb max and the larger drives.
