What are your plans to handle Blu-Ray with your DVD media

Hi All.

I currently have a NAS with all my Movies & TV Shows streaming to my first gen ATV.

Blu-ray is stand alone and I don't currently have the hardware to rip them.

Blu-ray is confusing the future as I don't know if I just watch them as Blu-ray, rip them to watch on ATV?

What are your plans for your AV library and your HD format films?

Howdy. I was similarly at the same crossroads. I use the automator scripts I found on the forums here to rip both dvds and bluerays. The quality (I only have a 720p 42-inch TV) is just a perfect as the disk. And the file sizes are never higher than 2GB for a movie.

You can get the hardware for a very reasonable price these days. I didn't get a BR burner, just a reader. Buy an internal BR reader from Amazon along with an optical drive enclosure. Voila - BR ripping machine

Edit: The total cost for the hardware was $105. No drivers needed, Mac OS does it itself.

Spent 12months using 4 machines converting my DVD library for the ATV1 (long before the automation we have now came along).....now I only buy Blurays, and they come in the front door and straight into my office for ripping. Im not going through another period of playing catchup on physical to digital format again. With 4 ATVs throughout the house, and a second place with 2 ATVs, why would I?

Right now I have no need for blue ray, most content I just buy from the iTunes store (buying the few TV shows I watch a month is much cheaper than upgrading my cable plan) and watch them with my computer hooked up to the TV. Getting a Blue Ray player is on my list after getting an Apple TV, then after that I will begin to think about getting them into iTunes.

$94 dollars with tax and shipping.

Will rip into iTunes (have drobo to store movies, music, etc.)
