Hey everyone!

I’m curious to know what battery charge limit settings you all are using. I recently upgraded from a 14PM and didn’t realize these options (like checking battery cycles) were available. Since I have a desk job, my phone is almost always plugged in during the week, and I really only need extended battery life on weekends or while traveling. I’ve heard that keeping the charge at 80% is ideal for maintaining battery health, and avoiding fast charging too frequently is recommended.

But why has Apple limited these features to the iPhone 15 and newer? It seems like they’re encouraging people to upgrade their phones rather than just replace the battery!

I'm using 100% with Optimized Battery Charging. My iPhone 13 Pro was at 79% battery health after 3 years, at which point I was ready to trade it in anyways. If I wanted to keep it for another year or two, I would've taken it in and gotten the battery replaced.

I don't get the obsession with battery health when most people don't keep their phone for more than 2-3 years max. It's almost like it's a contest or bragging rights to see who can maintain the highest battery health percentage on their phone. It's not a game I'm interested in playing.

+1 here, I hope Apple will remove this from the phone.

Tesla owners will totally get this —how obsessive you become about protecting the lithium-ion battery. It feels similar here with the iPhone, just on a smaller scale, haha!

It's super useful for when I'm on long drives (we are talking 8+ hour drives here) with only wired CarPlay. Don't advocate to take away features that some of us like - there's plenty of features that I have no use for but I would never advocate to take them away from folks that do find them useful...

On my iPhone 16 Plus, currently set at 85%. I wonder why on the charge level graph why charging from a 12 watt/2.4 ampere USB-A charger is shown as orange unless it's only green if you charge from a USB Power Delivery 3.0 compatible charger.

Agreed, at $99 or less to replace the battery it doesn't seem worth it to forgo the conveniences of fast/wireless charging and obsess over charging habits. I like putting my phone/watch/AirPods on my wireless charging dock at work or home and not really thinking about it. But I certainly obsessed over other trivial things about my devices so to each their own 😄

I think this is to indicate that you're using a "slow charger" since it can handle 30W

Slown charging. Same here. All good. I charge using an iPad 12w charger.

I must be in the minority because my Tesla M3 is charged to 100% everytime it gets close to 20%. The iPhone 16 Pro goes to charge every night. No battery protections are on. Life is too short. :)

It is interesting to hear people’s different views on this subject. One of the factors on my mind is what can be done to keep the phone in a healthy condition for its whole life, not just my time as the owner. I usually pass my phone onto one of my children so if there is anything I can do to maintain the battery health that seems a good thing. I use the 85% limit and I hope in time I will be passing on a better phone. Even if the phone is being traded in somebody is getting a better phone. I just hope these charging limits work.

I do home office so I use 80% and wirelessly charge my 16 Pro Max before hitting 20%. When I do go out I charge more than 80% depending on the usage.

If the charging limits don't work, then it's not very expensive to replace the battery. If you're trading it in and the phone gets refurbished, it's likely getting a new battery anyway.

I won’t sacrifice my battery just to save a few % health. My 13pro was down to 89% after nearly 3 years and had optimise switched off.

100% non-optimised. I charge it when it needs it, even if I’m just sitting on the couch I’ll plug it in for a top-up.

Don’t care about battery health %, never even look at it.
