Hi, i would like to customize my new MBP to 160GB. I was wondering what brand/model of 160GB does the new MBP use.

Thanks.

It uses a 2.5" Serial-ATA (SATA) Drive. Other World Computing (www.macsales.com) usually has some pretty good prices on them. I got a 160gig for my MBP for around $90. They also have great prices on RAM and provide video tutorials for how to install it in pretty much any mac system.

The question is ambiguous. Does he wants to know what brand of HD Apple is using for the BTO MBP if you order it with the 160 gig HD upgrade or is he asking for a recommendation as to what brand of HD he should buy to upgrade his MBP.

Well, i just want to compare the performance between the stock 120GB and BTO 160GB. But without the brand/model, i can't google nothing for my little research.

Hmm... i heard this particular model ROCKS. Too bad it will also kill my battery life.

It won't kill your battery life. I installed it in my MBP and haven't noticed any significant difference in my battery life.

BTW-It does ROCK!

Hmm ok. So you opened the MBP's non-user replaceable chassis and installed the drive yourself?

BTW, I just checked out a review of the new WD 250GB 2.5" 5400 rpm which offers up to 25% speed improvement in real-life tests like RAR compression and file copying. Though, I don't think it matters anyway since Apple doesn't offer this on MBP 15".

Yes, I got out my #00 Phillips & #6 Torx screwdrivers and removed the Fujitsu 120GB 5400RPM drive from my MBP, and replaced it with a Seagate Momentus 160GB 7200RPM Drive. It took about 20 minutes. I then installed a fresh copy of OS X, and re-installed my programs and data. It was actually easier than I expected.

Here is a link to the iFixit guide to replacing the MBP hard drive:

Does anyone know if Fujitsu 120GB 5400RPM is a slow performer in the 2.5" HDD group? Thanks.
