ok,i've had a powerbook for half a year roughly now and i've never regretted getting it
i was using firefox on my pc laptop that's just gathering dust now so i installed it on my powerbook as well
i know firefox is cool with all its add-ons and themes and all that...
plus i needed the web developer toolbar to look at sites' css and to turn off various features to see what happens and so on...
lately the connection at home has been kinda slow so i thought i'd use safari to see if it's any faster...
and i was very very surprised to realise that safari is soooooo much faster than firefox!!!
of course props to apple for a kick ass browser!
but firefox still has a few things i can't help but use that safari does not have...
which do you think is the best and is it really worth having a third one in this competition?
 
it's a powerbook,not a macbook pro
i've only got two or three extentions on firefox,only the ones i need
still it's a lot slower than safari
any more opinions on this? :)
 
Do you mean Firefox is slow as in rendering pages, or that it just feels slow (e.g. scrolling, opening new tabs, etc.)? I find that Firefox feels really slow on my iBook, even though page rendering speed seems about the same as other browsers. I use Camino since it's more Mac-like and isn't just a Windows port like Firefox is.

Go with Camino. It's just as compatible as Firefox, but it's heavily optimised both for OSX and the G4.

I don't know that Camino is that much better than Safari. It might be a little more compatible, and to to me ot just "feels" better. Which extensions are you using for Firefox? There may be a few alternatives for Camino/Safari that would work as replacements.
 
on safari i have the web developer toolbar on because of what i'm studying (web design and development) and a very light theme that just changes the way the buttons look and the noscript add-on.oh,yeah and another one that gives you more options on tabbed browsing.that's all.
is camino really worth stop using firefox and safari?
now i mainly use firefox but when it's really slow i use safari to get the job done
oh,and another thing,how can i export my bookmarks from firefox and import them into safari?
in windows you go to the folder and copy them and paste them in the other browser's folder but i've looked around and i don't think that's the case in OS X.
so,what is the best browser out there for a powerbook g4????

edit:i took a look at camino's website(a browser's website,oh the irony) and it really doesn't look all that different to safari.i mean,ok, it is optimised for Tiger, but safari comes with Tiger,so it would be more native,right?is the difference that massive? i've also noticed that there are some add-ons for camino,so that's a good thing
 
I swear by Opera. Been my primary browser since July.

My FF, Opera, and Safari side by side.

I keep safari around just in case. Opera is faster than the rest as far as my usage is concern. The only downside with Opera is some site compatiblity issues but is usually resolved when you change an option in opera to have it be identified as IE or Mozilla.

p.s. the default positioning for tabs and whatnot are similar to FF. I put them on the sides because I prefer them there.

well,i need something more mainstream than opera and for my course so far it's either gonna have to be firefox or safari with the odd exception of camino maybe if it's the same as safari but better
that's what i'm waiting for people to tell me :)
sorry dude,no opera for me,although i do like classical music :)

I think you just need to try all the browsers out and see which one fits your needs best. We can sit here all day telling you the features of our favorite browsers, but when it comes down to it, you're the one that's going to be using it. Just try a few out and see which one you like best!
 
ye,that's what i'm gonna do in the end... :)
i wanted to get technical feedback about what browser is technically best,but of course we can't be totally objective :)

can anyone tell me how to transfer bookmarks from firefox to safari though?

Use http://del.icio.us instead. That's what I do. Browser/platform independent bookmarks.

What's not to like? There's tons of programs that sync del.icio.us to safari and camino, there's api's to filter, sort and display your bookmarks on your website, and there's programs like this that let you view your del.icio.us bookmarks locally:

I didn't know about Delibar. That's a pretty cool little app!
 
i thought i'd give it a go
delibar opens the links in the default browser though
i'd like it to open them in the current browser i have open
is there a way to do that or another app that does it?
