I don't believe that it is accessible in Shortcuts.

that's what I thought....

I use my iPad Mini 6 randomly throughout the day. each time I away from it, it wastes almost 2 minutes of screen on time. I kept track of how many times I used it in one day and I put it down and walk away 31 to 45 times. If I can somehow make it turn off the screen automatically after just 30 seconds, that saves 1 minute 30 seconds... multiply that by 45 times... that's almost a little over 1 hour of unnecessary screen-on time.

Yeah, it can add up. You'll have to develop the habit of hitting the power button when setting it down and walking away.

Thanks! I took one trip with my new iPad Mini 6 and tried remember to do that.

I don't understand what Apple engineers were thinking when they made the minimum just 2 minutes. It can't be that hard to set the factory default to 2-minute... but allow users the options to change to 30-second(like on iPhones). :)

Maybe because iPad has bigger battery just because, so engineers don’t think about adding shorter auto off timer.
With that being said, iOS 15 has low power mode, which would turn off iPad screen rather quickly and aggressively. You could enable that.

Put it in low power mode, dims after 20 seconds and locks at 30 seconds

I don’t have auto lock on my iPhone and use the low power mode to activate auto lock the few times I need it

That was the basis of the Shortcut suggestion I saw on Stack Exchange, but because it turned into a longer discussion about the downsides of low power mode, I stopped reading it.

I didn’t actually read the full thread before replying, figured this was a hands off need. Even if you use low power mode to save that 90 seconds you could just press the lock button to save yourself the whole 2 minutes.

It’s built into my muscle memory when I’m putting a device down / away they my thumb / fingers goes to the lock button

The iPad locks after 30 seconds in low power mode, otherwise you could use a case with the auto sleep/wake function.
