OK i am looking at buying a new Apple TV and i am curious as to what i can do with the 3 ( iMac, iPad and Apple tv )

All my movies are NOT in my iTunes library, i downloaded them from various places on the net, they play on my iMac fine, but from what i understand, i have to format/encode them or what not ALL into my iTunes library for them to stream to my Apple TV?

Also, what other cool things can i do with the iMac and Apple TV or iPad 2 and Apple TV? stream safari? and have full screen webpages on my TV?

Just curious what i can and CANT do before i pull the plug on a Apple TV

Thanks

If you are able to jailbreak the ATV 2G you can install XBMC on it. Then you can stream any video file on your iMac no matter what type it is.

You can download airvideo for your iPad and stream from iMac to atv2 with live conversion mkv's, avi's, flv's, etc. It's pretty slick.

with airvideo I'm only getting audio to the ATV2, running the 2.4.5 beta5 too.
