What can I expect with AppleCare?

Hi there,

What am I to expect as far as service and support goes if I purchase the AppleCare plan on my iMac? If my iMac dies, will they replace it? If there is user-inflicted damage, will they repair it?

What real-world support have you folks seen from AppleCare, and is the plan even worth buying?

I ask because I've heard many horror stories about these extended warranty plans... they sound good in theory but when the company is pressed to back it, they fall apart.

User-caused failure isn't covered. If it's a hardware thing, NOT CAUSED by you, then they'll cover it.

You also get the 3 years of free phone support.
IMO, Apple care is a MUST!! I'm getting mine for my PB on April 15. (birthday present to myself)

AppleCare is a good idea. Things can go wrong. Take it from me: I just bought a Rev. B iMac and it has to go in b/c of a simple problem with DVD burning from the Superdrive...point being that Apple computers occasionally do have problems, but from my experience now firsthand and others from word of mouth, it seems that problems usually occur right away with DOA parts--or not at all. It something goes wrong, it seems to happen right away or not at all. However, better to be safe than sorry.
