What can I use my iphone for if not connected to AT&T?

So I just got my Iphone last week and I am pretty sure I am cancelling my service soon.

I am not an Iphone person but have been researching a lot of things this past week in regards to the iphone.

I like the phone but just not the phone, messaging part and overly priced service plan. If I cancel and pay the $175 to keep it, what are my options to get some type of data plan on the phone?

I read that people can no longer do it on Tmobile and when I called AT&T today they said I cannot have the device without voice and data, no data only plan option.

I don't mind carrying around the iphone and using my blackberry for phone, text and messaging.

I was hoping to somehow use data only on it like some people had been doing for a while. I guess they were using tmobiles sidekick plan but something was changed and now that can't be done.

I was just checking to see if there was a simple way to get data only.

I think you should have thought about that before you committed yourself to $500+. Why would you think buying an iPhone and cancelling the contract and using it as an iPod touch would be cheaper then just buying an iPod touch?

I haven't committed myself to anything but prorated service and a 10% restocking fee. I didn't even port over my number in case I didn't like the Iphone as much as I was hoping I would.

An ipod touch does not have data capability . It has wifi which is obviously not the same. It also has gps and a camera which the touch doesn't have. They might be related but they aren't twins.

If I cancel my contract I only pay about $50. I can cancel and just pay the 175 plus the 200 I paid and have a 16gb 3gs iphone for $375 and I can probably sell it for over $500 so no money lost there.

I was just trying out the phone. That is why they have a return policy.

No love lost. I think the Iphone is great and kicks the blackberry's butt hands down when it comes to many things. I just don't think it is worth double what a comparable Sprint plan costs.

The first part of what you said is correct. If you cancel your contract within 30 days then you just pay the prorated monthly fee and the 10% restocking fee. However, you must return the phone if cancelled before 30 days.

If cancelled after 30 days then you keep the phone but then you have already paid one month of service...so at least $75. They also do not prorate the month of service that you cancel it on, so you'd pay another full month...another $75. You then pay the $175 ETF.

iPhone: 200
service: 150
ETF: 175

Total: $525 + Taxes

There you go Mr. Smarty Pants.

Who said anything about cancelling after 30 days. I returned the phone today and it cost me $20 for the restocking fee and I will pay for a week's worth of service. I have a business discount so there is no activation fee...doesn't sound like $525 plus taxes to me

But that's because you returned the iPhone. Your original comment was
