My mom has a 2010 MacBook Pro (I forget how fast). She's not using it since the websites she would use don't support Safari. Is there still a market for these? I don't even remember if I can play some old games on it but either way, I'm trying to declutter.

Now, I would like to have some kind of TimeMachine backup over wifi for my M1 MBP. I think I looked into this in the past and it would not stay on with the lid closed.

Would this be good to sell or give to some kid for school work? I'm guessing not.

Install windows XP and repurpose it as a windows laptop.
Use a different browser if possible For web browsing.
That’s what I would do, And possibly much more.

I looked at the tech spec and it wasn’t too bad in that regard. I think there has been some issues with the NVIDIA GPU on these but not sure.

Looking for someone used these to chime in for their experience.

What version of the Mac OS is on it?
There may be an "extended range" version of Firefox that will run on it.
Or perhaps another browser...

You clearly belong in the Early Intel Mac subform. We would be honored if you would join us.

With an SSD and maxed out RAM, a 2010 MacBook Pro is still a very capable machine; using Open Core Legacy Patcher you can comfortably run much more modern versions of mac OS.

If you don't mind something a little different (and if you've got the tech-savviness), you can also replace your older version of OS X with a drop-in replacement Linux distribution like Zorin OS or Elementary.

And if you're not inclined to do anything like a complete OS reinstall, you can still keep using your Mac with the modern web thanks to browsers like Pale Moon, Chromium Legacy, ArcticFox and SeaLion. With some patience, a few upgrades and a little elbow grease you still have a very capable machine capable of all but the most intense computing tasks.

I think I sold my copy of XP. I hadn't needed it in years. I do like that it has a disc drive though.

I'll check out Chrome. I got her an iPad but she really just uses her iPhone for most things.

I forgot about that subform! I was on the PPC one for a few years. I guess I still am but I don't have room for my PPCs so no need to browse it.
