Any Ideas? I'm hoping penryn and much larger hard drives...

Nothing - it's a consumer device.

WWDC is all about software development. The iPhone will feature heavily because it's the next big platform for the developers out there who can stand to make boatloads if they do their apps right. The consumer machines are just not important to those developers. They want to see OS improvements to coding, XCode updates, faster Mac Pros and MacBook Pros, they don't care about the Mac mini - it'll get the usual silent update from Apple when they deem it necessary.

I expect nothing. Hopefully by year-end it will have transitioned to the Montevina platform which will improve it's performance thanks to boosts in FSB, memory and GPU speeds.

Well I guess the better question is when will be updated next and what can we expect?

Merges with the Apple TV2, to become the Media hub machine. Links in to the TV to play games, movies, music, pictures etc.

Mini will have a quad core 3.93 Ghz Processor with 48MB L2 cache. 8GB of PC3-14200 RAM will be standard with dual layer BD-Burner and Dual 300GB Velociraptor Hard drives will be provided in RAID 0 mode. GeForce GTX 280 in Tri-SLI will be powering graphics having 1GB of VRAM each in 512Bit BUS. It's also going to be smaller than current model with a thickness comparable to MBA.

This model will be priced at 399.

They have ignored the mini for a long time now, so it wouldn't surprise me to see SOME update to it, but it would be weird to do it at WWDC.

I think it is due for some completely new design, or death.

At this point I'm almost willing to settle for what they're selling. ALMOST. I need a computer to power an LCD tv in the living room.

However, wireless G is absolutely unacceptable. My late 2006 iMac had draft-n. It boggles me that they haven't updated the mini to wireless n.

Obviously nothing...With all the buzz around iPhone 2.0, it wouldn't make any sense to make an announcement about it then. They'd do it on a more quiet week where it could get more buzz.

SWEET! Anyone know where I can pre-order one of these beauties? (lol)

Taking a cue from the latest Mac Pro revision, I expect the Mac Mini to be updated one week before WWDC.

Why? Don't these developers develop for the Macintosh, no matter what model?

Not that I disagree with your assumption that there will be no Mac mini upgrade shown at WWDC. It's just that I don't understand why you think developers are only interested in the pro models.

Because, Programmers by default use OSX machines to carry out their profession. Like the professional Graphic artist, they can afford, and can produce better/faster work if they use fast machines. Do they all use the latest and greatest? No, but they certainly care about it, which leads me to...

Programmers need to know what is cutting edge and on the horizon so they can adjust for and take advantage of it. This is true of both Hardware and Software, which is why the next version of OSX is often times demoed in detail at WWDC.

So, might the mini's be updated on or near WWDC? yes. Will Steve get up on stage and announce the next great thing in the mini? No, because everything in the mini is old. Is Steve pushing the guys at Apple to hurry up with the Mini update because WWDC is coming? No.

Just the way it is :)

I understand all that. It's Chundles' assertion that "consumer machines are not important to developers" which baffles me.

I would think if a new consumer iMac, xMac or Mac mini came out which had the promise to sell a quick five million units, developers would be very interested. It means more software/peripheral sales, whether cutting edge or not. If the hypothetical Mac was really super cool, it might even be introduced at WWDC. :D
