I really like what Ive seen from the Nexus 5, but I really don't see the advantage in my case. Out in this area, Straight Talk and the few other prepaid services are junk. Bad, spotty reception and slow 4G speeds. I can't justify spending $400 for it and taking it to AT&T under contract when my HTC One was only $150. So what carriers are you guys on where this phone actually makes sense?

I'm moving to T-Mobile (it's on a temp SIM card on that network now). Reception is essentially the same as AT&T (which I also tried on it) both at my house (relatively poor in both cases) and while commuting/at work (excellent in both cases).
However, as you said, it's dependent upon which carriers work for you. If you're already, say, an AT&T customer and already have a good phone and intend to stay on contract, there's no reason to switch to it. It's a fine phone, but there are many fine phones.

Yup - in fact, it's mostly month-to-month now.
If you get a T-Mobile SIM from a T-Mobile phone (I bought a $25 burner phone at Walmart and cut the SIM down to size), you qualify for a $30/mo plan that includes 100 minutes of talk and unlimited texting/data. I am using that for now.
You can get monthly plans at $50/$60/$70, the difference being how much data you get at high speed before they throttle you down - they never cut you off, and there are never data overage charges. They just throttle to EDGE speeds after 500MB/2GB/5GB depending on the plan.
I'm switching because I've got a family with 4 phone users, and I can do that for a total of $120/month - a $70 plan, a $30 add-on for the 2nd line, and two $10 add-ons for the other 2 lines. That is less than half of my AT&T bill, and I lose nothing.
Also, T-Mobile bills, at least for the $30 plan I've been using, are that plus tax. No hidden fees. My $30/month plan costs me a little over $31/month, total. Period.
I'm using mine on AT&T. Sold my HTC One earlier today (with a few accessories) for $500. Used an upgrade to purchase the One from Best Buy for $100 so I came out pretty far ahead.
I use mine on att, but I get a great corporate discount so pay close to what I would on prepaid plan. Att also offers a prepaid service that is $60 for unlimited talk, text, and 2gb data. That same plan on contract cost $95 if you do not get a discount. That makes the n5 way cheaper than a contract
I was on Straight Talk, thought it was decent enough, but ended up switching because my wife's 4s kept losing data and the sim swap hack wouldn't work for me any more... Fed up with having to hack a solution I'm paying for each month I went to T-Mobile.
Been on T-Mobile for 2 days now... Pretty much everywhere is 3G or LTE around me with a few more rural areas getting the EDGE network. For some damn reason though I get like no reception at home! My wife's iPhone gets 2-3 dots and I'm left with nothing to 1 bar... It gets better right when into outside, but I sure as hell am not heading outside to make calls out send texts!
If this doesn't seem to improve I might head to AIO, but its definitely more expensive
Anyone with insight into this? I double checked all APNs

My wife's iPhone gets 2-3 dots and I'm left with nothing to 1 bar... It gets better right when into outside, but I sure as hell am not heading outside to make calls out send texts!
If this doesn't seem to improve I might head to AIO, but its definitely more expensive

Hmm buy a device outright and used post-paid AT&T... Does not compute! Why not switch to AIO?

Could be like me and gets a discount. Makes it hard to let go of Att unlimited data paying $75 a month after taxes.
It's crazy how much money I would save switching to tmobile. Over 3 years it would be around 2000 dollars less then att. Unfortunately the others on my family plan live in the boonies and would get edge if they were lucky.
I get a discount and have two other devices on my plan (family share plan). Which I only switched to so I could still tether and use iOS7...
I am on At&t. I have the HTC One and got it on contract. I have been thinking about T-Mobile for a while now, but I am afraid the service will not be even close to what At&t gets around here. It would be much wiser since I am using an unlocked phone, and T-Mobile is so much cheaper. I just can't pull the trigger.
Mine was on T-Mobile before I sold it today. It worked great on their network. LTE Speeds were great.

I left AT&T for T-Mobile last fall and never looked back. You just need to find out how your covered in your area before you switch.

AT&T post paid for now. At least until they take away my discount I've been getting. Then my first choice will be go phone.

After a week on T-Mobile I am getting horrible reception at home and my wife is getting the same at work. We have aio sim cards on their way which should arrive today. Its a shame to get limited to 8mb down, but its much better than getting 20mb down in cities and no reception where we live and work

I hope a lot of you know that you essentiallyget the same exact identical service from MetroPCS that you would get from T-Mobile, since MetroPCS uses T-Mobile GSM towers to operate their GSM Phones ( both companies are on the same network now but operate seperate) So if there is Metro in your area then that is your best deal $60 for unlimited ( Tax Included) I have 3 faily members and I added my line as the 4th ( $25 a month for unlimited talk, text and 500MB) I've already exceeded my 500MB and still get great LTE Speeds when LTE is available before I maxed out 500MB I got as high as 40mbps down , recently got 18 i'll take that anyday you just can't beat my bill $25

Using mine on AT&T. Company discount and grandfathered plans keep me from switching. You could just use the upgrade and sell the phone. That would cover the cost of this years nexus and part of next year's nexus.
