Hello

Is there a heavy duty case for the new 2018 12.9 iPad pro for air travel?

I wanted to take mine with me, but even with the folio case or the Otterbox case, I am not confident having it in my backpack, which would probably go under the seat.

I traveled with my 9.7 pro frequent, but that thing feels like a tank in a had plastic case. The 12.9 is so thin and much larger, so I am a bit concerned.

I think the Otterbox one is fine for the extra protection you need. Still, I probably wouldn’t be stuffing it under an airline seat regardless of the case it was in. But that’s me. I’d keep it next to me or on my lap...or even in the magazine sleeve on the back of the seat in front of me.

Heavy duty case for air travel? Are you expecting to crash? Air travel is basically the same as any other travel. Slap a Apple folio on it and “take off”. In all seriousness, I traveled 500 plus hours international with my last 12.9 iPP with only Apples Smart Cover/Smart Keyboard and at times the Apple rear cover. Zero issues. I don’t expect any issues with my new 12.9 and Apples folio/Folio keyboard. I start going back and forth to Asia after the holidays. I’ll let you know how it goes.

I would just put in a case like the Apple folio case and then in a sleeve. I wouldn’t put it in my bag under the seat in front though.

I picked up this case from Amazon -

Smatree Carry Case 12-13.3 inch - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076Q5S4WV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_tb-.BbP4K9CR6

It’s got plenty of room for storing your Pencil, cords and plugs and other stuff, it’s got a hard outer shell to protect the iPad from bumps and kicks. I picked up this case specifically for travel - not because I’m afraid of it bending, but because I just want to protect my investment (and have everything I need in one convenient case!)

The Otterbox, as others have said.

Well, so far mine has not sustained any damage. I carry it naked - along with the pencil attached - in my backpack on jet aircraft all over the USA. Knock on wood.

Little over board but I picked up a pelican case to transport mine in.

I’m going to use my keyboard when I fly. Not only will it be nice to be able to type if I ant to, but the best thing IMO is that it’s so secure that it will be good to view movies and play games.

To me, this defeats one of the major reasons I enjoy traveling with an iPad—so much awesomeness in such a compact package.
Believe it or not I actually agree with that and feel the same way. But, I don’t want my iPad to bend in my back pack so.

I have the otterbox case but i also carry the Logitech keys to go so I can have the best of both worlds but only when I need it.

I had a 12.9 but returned it. Picked up an 11 this afternoon. I also ordered a Pelican. I ordered the Pelican 1075 for my 11 and an Apple Smart Keyboard. Will see how it works. It should offer about the best bend protection if we're worried about that....

This is completely overkill and i love it

Do you feel like you are carrying nuclear codes at times?
Haha sometimes. But I also feel that I do t have to worry about the iPad breaking or bending. I also take it to work with me once in a while, working in a construction environment, I don’t have to worry about the iPad now. Ultimate piece of mind.

I've flown with my iPad 11 inch in the smart folio with no issues. I throw it in a backpack every day to and from work also. As long as you don't put excessive pressure on the iPad, it's not going to bend. I have found the new one to be just as sturdy as any other.
