What case should I get for Ipod Touch 3G?

Hello, I am going to get an iPod Touch for xmas but I was wondering what case I should get? I would like one with a screen protector, as it would probably end up getting damaged in my bag. I would like one that would be able to be used on a docking station and something that looks nice.

Hope you can help :)
 
Telling someone to buy a certain case is like telling them what kind of underwear to wear ;)

I'd go take a cruise thru the iPhone Accessory forum - there are some threads with a bunch of pictures and that might help you decide what you like!

Theres a really good silicone case from belkin that I bought and highly recomend. It fits so perfect, and its not the flimsy floppy kinda material... its moderately stiff... it has bumps for the lock button and for the volume keys button. you get it as a pack of 2 in different colors for like 10$ on amazon. heres the link.

and it now looks like the color combination I bought (white + back) has taken a huge jump up in price... but if u look, there are other color combos for less than 10$!

the cons would be:
you would have to buy a screen protector seperately.
ipod may not fit in a dock with the case on depending on the dock

Not sure how this will work, but this is the one I'm getting. It is on the expensive side, but it comes with screen protectors, a dock connector designed to fit the iPod with the case on, and a couple other extras. It is also the best of both worlds in that it is a soft and hard case.

But as TraceyS/FL said, what case you get is really up to you and how you think it will fit your needs/wants...like underwear.

Bwahahahaha...... i'm going to get that for ME, the kids will upgrade to an Otterbox... if i ever get my flipping money. Although, my daughter thinks it is the ugliest case ever (see the personal preference here?)

Sooo, since we picked the same case - what kinda undies should i buy next? :cool:

Cool thanks, I read somewhere that 2G cases can't fit 3G ones... Is this true? :confused:

Cool, thanks. I've been looking at Gear4 Icebox Pro cases and some switcheasy ones. Though looking at these forums, it looks like Gear4 is quite annoying to get off and lets in dirt.. Does switcheasy also have these problems?

As both the iPod and the case are still on their way to me, I can not say from personal experience. :rolleyes:

I can say that after reading reviews on hard/soft cases and experience with friends and hard cases for various things (ipods/mb's), hard cases alone will let dirt in and hold dirt in, scratching the metal. Soft cases can be more form fitting and reduce the amount of stuff that can get in.

Reason I went with the SwitchEasy is that it is both a hard and soft case with a screen protector film. With all three installed it seems as though an 'impenetrable' seal will be made.

Thanks for your help :). I've just been looking at the SwitchEasy website and I like the look of the 'Pure' screen protector, could I use a case on top of this also?

I would assume that the Pure protectors are the same (besides the reflect/antireflect surface treatment) as what is included with the Rebel/Neo/Colors cases they offer.

To be sure, just send them an email. I'm sure they will get back to you fairly quickly.

Are these just for personalization, or do they protect the ipod at all? Because I'm thinking about getting one then putting a clear case over it... Would this work? :confused:

Though I'll probably end up getting a 'pure' screen cover with a silicone case aswell. So many choices...:p

I would say they will protect the iPod from scratches like any other item put over the surface. They will do little to protect from shocks and falls though. You also have to worry about removal and a residue.

I have to say that I think hard plastic on it's own is not good enough to protect from falls. All it will do is transfer the shock, just like Newton's Cradle. The soft cases absorb some of the shock by squishing when dropped but do not protect against sustained pressure like a hard shell can. Those reasons are why I went with the SwitchEasy RebelTouch to protect my new investment.

That does look good, It says in the description 'cushions the middle' does this mean it is soft on the inside? I would get a hard case but I'm worried it might scratch the the ipod? Also as creator2456 said it might not protect it fully. I am quite a careful person, but with a seven year old brother in the house I don't want to take chances. I will probably keep it in a sock as well just in case..
 
no doubt you need the switcheasy rebel touch. I have one for my iTouch 3G and it is the best case ever! it looks stylish too. :cool:

Not really sure if i would describe it as "soft" on the inside, but its not hard hard, if you get what i'm saying? Its kinda flexible on its own. Its really thin and worked on my iHome perfectly without having to take it off. I kept it in my pocket, and it does let in a little lint and had a few little "dimples", but not scratches. It was like a single grain got in and just sat there, creating a single point on the back, but not a scratch, if that makes sense?

After some polishing with a microfiber cloth the touch looks brand spankin' new, i like it. However, it does let some lint in. I'm not completely anal about little specs, but hate scratches, and it polishes new! I had soft cases when I first started, but they collected lint even worse on the actual case and everything, so i switched to hard cases. I've dropped my classic a few times in a Griffin reflector hard case and its fine...

For a slim, sleek and good looking case that fits in the dock and lets the beauty of the ipod touch back show, i like Agent18, but keep your ipod long enough and you'll find what suits you best.
