So since 3.0, we pretty much have everything that people have been complaining about not having since 2007. Now that we have everything... what do you think you want in iPhone OS 3.2?

Here's some wishes of mine:

1. More speed and smoother animations for older hardware. It got better in 3.1.2, so I imagine it can get even better for 3.2.

2. The ability to skip tracks using bluetooth remote. My car stereo has bluetooth and it sucks not being able to skip to the next track using my car stereo. It works with my bluetooth dongle though.

3. Some sort of rotation-lock in preferences. I hate when I set my iPhone down in my lap or twist my wrist while I'm not looking and inadvertently put Messages in landscape mode, then I have to flip my phone up... wait until it decides to rotate, and then I can start typing portrait again.

4. I think they should add the ability to ignore app updates on an app-by-app basis. Sometimes Apple requests an app developer to remove a certain feature and of course you don't want to upgrade that app because you actually LIKE that feature (like iStat) so I think a swipe-to-ignore option would be greatly welcome so we don't have to stare at the red numbers on the icon all the time... just begging us to update the apps

5. I think iPhone 3G users should get a battery percentage gauge, even if it only changes in 5% increments.

6. Perhaps Apple could give us some more SMS tones? Maybe they could even make it so we can add our own? Surely that doesn't need an entirely new OS right?

I think these would be some great improvements in 3.2. Notice that I didn't request any major features... but just small improvements. I remember last year, Apple added little changes to 2.1 and then 2.2. They weren't huge feature updates, but little enhancements.

Did I miss anything? What would you like in 3.2?

I imagine there will be a 3.2 developer beta sometime in November or December.

I like the rotation-lock idea. I would like to see SMS quick reply (no need to leave your app).

To change your own Email, SMS/MMS tones.

To be able to toggle Push or Pull for individual email accounts rather than one settings for all.

To add wallpaper to the apps screen.

Not a bad list actually and sounds very reasonable.

I'd def relay this to Apple via their suggestion link. :)

Open up bluetooth for uses beyond audio / music / peer-to-peer games. I'd like my iPod touch to be able to talk to other bluetooth devices, like some GPS devices.

  • Being able to cycle through push notifications (if you get multiple messages but you can only see the last one)
  • Unified message box (being able to read all your email and not sepearte it based on service)
  • Ability to subscribe to a podcast right from the phone (and not only from iTunes)
  • Have access to iTunes Radio stations (Apple is missing the boat on this; they could even go further to include iTunes tagging to generate more revenue)

1. Combine all email accounts into one window
2. Clicking on the dots at the bottom of the home screen can take you to that particular page (no need to keep swiping to get to your eight page of apps).
3. More SMS tones
4. As others have said, rotation lock feature (more jailbroken features such as background image, etc).
5. Place bluetooth option (on, off switch) under WiFi for easier access.
6. Better (ie WebOS) notification system, such as an icon at the top or bottm. I like the badge system, why not just have the option to do away with push for SMS, so instead of a big notification you have to deal with, just add a badge of new SMS to the messages app, and maybe an icon at the top bar to remind you.
7. I think the 3GS can handle background running apps. Why not let 3GS owners have the option of running some apps in the background?

I'm sure there's more I can't think of right now.

They can't add background processes unless they add it for the iPhone 3G too. The iPhone 3G barely has enough resources to do what it currently does.

I'm not sure the 3G can run many apps in the background, but there are plenty of people with JB 3G phones running backgrounder fine so who knows.

Back to your point, Apple did restrict the battery percentage option to 3GS phones, so why not the option to run apps in the background?

The battery percentage was restricted because the iPhone 3G battery is only smart enough to know 5% increments instead of 1% increments like the 3GS.

So why would they not restrict backgrounding because the 3G has less ram than the 3Gs? They COULD include backgrounding in the 3Gs firmware and not the 3G. Just like they did with Video MMS, Video Recording, Voice Control and Battery %. They use different firmware images.

If you're using google, you can have a junk folder.

And if you're not? This annoys me too.

My old University email has a Junk Mail filter, but they email me a SPAM digest daily with a list of all the SPAM messages so I can see if any are from people I know. There is no junk folder. I just have this email marked as SPAM on my Mac and automatically moved to the Trash, but if my Mac is off this doesn't happen.

Well, this is a unrealistic wish, but i would like to see Apple relax a little bit more on their apps approval process. Like, allow every apps to pass thru. :D (well, except for those apps with nudity) That way we don't have to resort to jailbreaking.

Oh yes, that would be nice. Except they don't need a firmware update for that, they just have to do it. Haha. Until then my phone will remain happily jailbroken as it was since the first day the Dev Team jailbroke the 3G. :D

I've always hated how the Touch fades in when you click the power button but the iPhone does not. Small and simple it seems.

in the ipod controls, there is a rewind 30 second feature, so how about a forward 30 second feature also? this would help with the intros to some of the podcasts, and also some of the commercials that are showing up in some podcasts.
yeah, i know you can use the slider, but it is next to impossible to accurately control it to within 2 minutes or so.

Yes it is, place your finger on the slider, then WITHOUT breaking contact w/the screen move the finger DOWN. This allows you to see the time stamps on the left & right and adjust as needed. The further you move your finger down, the more accurate the adjustment becomes.

Right now, my biggest complaint is the Mail app. They need to make this more like the Mac Mail on mac OS. Combination of all accounts into one folder, an in app spam filter (even though this SHOULD be done on the server end) you can never have enough Spam filtration. Over all, the mail app needs to be more lush. It's so basic at the moment, it's painful at times.

A visualizer for the iPod app, so you can look at something and listen to music at the same time.

And bluetooth syncing from iTunes

I would like Apple to steal HTC's TouchFlo feature since HTC's touchflo feature is very similar to the Mac's taskbar, and incorporated it to the iPhone/iPod.

Anyone think HTC might have a chance against the iphone?

If apple doesn't do it, someone should do it and put it in cydia.
