Anyone know? I need a new digi cam anyway and I figure if there us one that will film in iPad compatible video so it doesn't have to be converted?

Camera Kit

My wife has a Panasonic DMC-TZ5 digitl and the video works fine. I have a Nikon D5000 DSLR and the video works fine on the Ipad.

iPhone camera

Honestly I just use my iPhone 3G S camera. The framerate is awesome and the quality looks great on the iPad screeen.

Will any camera that shootsin H.264 .mov format work? Is that the correct format?

HXGuy:

I just shot some video with my Canon Powershot SD850 and inserted the SD Card into the ipad cardreader (connection kit). The video immediately appeared on the screen and I selected it and imported. It plays perfectly.

The file is an .avi file from the camera.

Ah that's good news. Most EXILIM Casio point and shoots do Mjpeg video in .AVI format. I have the Z-90. My camera kit is supposed to be here this week.

Really?! Hmm. I have the SD800 IS and it also shoots in AVI but the video's did not appear on the iPad when I synced the photo album from iPhoto. I wonder what Im doing wrong.

I just checked the specs on both and they are both "Movie: AVI (Image: Motion JPEG; Audio: WAVE (Monaural))" so it should work.

NOTE: in the above example I did not sync to iPhoto. I simply put the SD card into the Camera Connection Kit directly attached to the iPad. Does that make the difference? Does the syncing change the format of the video? I don't know.

Yeah, that's been the bugaboo. iTunes will not transfer .AVIs either, even though they are MJPEG's. I do know the iPad will play them, since I emailed myself an .AVI and played it ok without conversion. Apparently, the camera kit allows the iPad to recognized MJPEG's even though they are in an .AVI container. I'll know for sure with mine when the Camera Kit arrives.;)
