I've been looking at the option of getting 2GB prefitted in a new 24" and a friend asked an interesting question.

I was thinking automatically that they would fit 2 X 1Gb instead of 2 X 512Mb, however, would they just put a 1Gb block in, and that would be the slots filled up?

I certainly don't want to have to take out those 512s and replace them later.

Thank you

Funnily enough Apples 2 GB upgrade on the iMac is actually quite reasonable
replacing the 2X512Mb DIMM with 2 X 1GB DIMM for $158.00

I was actually surprised to see those prices.

Going up to 3 GB involves using 1 X 1GB,
adding a single 2 GB stick and those are insanely expensive.
