What controller for Assassins Creed 2?

I have not used a Mac/PC for games before, but I saw AC2 and would like to give it a shot.

I have a 2010 i7 MBP and assume I need some mouse/gamepad in addition to the keyboard?

I would probably buy the game through Steam.
What hardware/software combination are people using successfully with OSX?

I just use a keyboard and a mouse, though you can also use an Xbox 360 controller.
