I think a general consensus was that many loved the matte finish of the iPhone 12’s side rails but disliked the glossy back.

Conversely, the 12 pro’s side rails were too much of a fingerprint magnet, but the matte back was a plus (if not a bit slippery).

Do we think Apple will simply leave this the same and simply make internal updates?

I’d love to see the rumours of a smaller notch, but also see Apple look for a way to lessen fingerprints.

Yes, the majority will slap a case, but some prefer to go naked and enjoy the phone’s design.

Given the trend since the iPhone X, I would expect no changes. Cheaper models: matte aluminum rails. Premium models: shiny stainless steel rails.

Naturally we'll know in time.

Perhaps keep the status quo as you say, but put the oleophobic coating on the entire phone, and not just the screen.

They’ll probably have a special color for the 12 pro but I think that might be the only external change besides a smaller notch.

So far, smaller notch, special color.

I wish for bolder colors. Apple did a nice set of colors with the XR, but then continually grew more and more mute with the 11 and 12. Need to put a bit of splash of bold colors again aside from the standard black/white/product red. Bring back coral and yellow. Really curious about the sales data on the colors.

Same design as the 12 Series. Likely different color. One thing on my wishlist is for the cameras on the back to be flush with the entire back (but I know that's not going to happen).

Couldn’t agree more. I’ve checked out the Pros and the side rails would drive me crazy. On my blue Mini the back is a fingerprint magnet, like you said, but since I don’t see the back of the phone nearly as often as the sides, it’s not a big deal for me, although I would have preferred the back to be matte of course.
