I will send my iPhone in for a repair via post to Apple. In the article about how to prepare the iPhone for shipping, nothing is said about the Apple Watch paired with it (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201557). I ask: do I need to unpair the Watch before sending? Or can I just erase the iPhone and still use Watch without it? And what do I have to do when the iPhone returns? Thanks for helping me.

If you erase the Phone, the watch will automatically unpair from the phone. You should still be able to use the watch as an actual watch but, you won't have the continuity features you have with the phone and watch being currently paired together. If you sign out of your Apple ID, you will be able to use the watch as a actual watch but, you won't have access to many of the Apple Watch features when you are normally signed in etc.

Follow Apple's guidelines for preparing your phone for service.

If they send you back the same phone, you should be ok using the watch without the iphone while it’s gone.
