What do i need to install to upgrade my hard drive?

MacBook needs a hard drive update, i dont have enough space for my iPod...
planning for 80GB, dont need that much space.

What discs do i need? Will the backup OSX restore disc be able to go into my mac and install? How will i get iLife and all my old programs onto my MacBook?

Best way is to also get an external drive enclosure. So you can then boot up into the external drive and use Super Duper to copy everything back.

Use the DVD that came with your Mac. You would then follow all the installation instructions. Very easy really.

iLife comes with that DVD, so no worries there. As for your other apps, you could just copy them to an external and then move them back to your new HD.
One recommendation: If you want to keep your iTunes Library and you iPhoto Library intact (play counts, ratings, comments, etc) just copy your iTunes and iPhoto folder to an external and then copy them back to your new HD.

Close to what I did. I bought a Seagate 160 gig HD, but it into an external case, then cloned the existing internal HD on to the new one using SuperDuper. When the cloning was complete, which took quite a while, I took out the old internal HD, popped the new one into the Macbook, and it booted right up.

IMO, you should get the largest HD you can afford, NOT just what you think you need today as your needs will surely grow over time.

Get the right sized screw drivers for the job too. Otherwise you will likely strip out the screw heads on the little metal thing under the battery.
