Hi,

What du u actually use the sleep function for?

Every time my iMac returns from sleep it has lost the wireless connection, and it is rather difficult and time consuming to restore the whole network connection, drives etc.

it takes for ever to reboot after it has returned from sleep. Like 10 minuttes or so, so it is easyer just to pull the plug out of the wall and rebbot this way.

But back to my question. What is it then for, this sleep function? Do you use it and do you have the same problems as i have?

Kind regards,
Lars petersen

That's not normal. When I wake from sleep, the machine is exactly as I left it, and my internet connection is not lost.

Has it always behaved like that for you? :)

Yes, do you have an iMac and wireless connection? I don't think it happens with normal wired network...

Mine acts the same way mad jew's does. I do have to click the airport icon to re-select my wireless network name but this takes 2 seconds max.

(it's completely wireless too)

I should add to my post that i think it is because of the wirelesss connection. I'm connected on a local network and the user is a network user. This would be why it takes forever to reboot, because it needs to "find out" that there is no network connection before it reboots...

Still, does anyone else have these troubles, and possible knowledge of a fix?

Both my PB and iMac, wake from sleep without problems. After just waking up they may take a second or two to reconnect to the wireless network, but there's never any need for measures you've mentioned.

Is your wireless network protected in some way? I'm not sure, but that may have something to do with it.

Edit: Didn't quite catch your post above. It's definitely something to do with the way you connect to the network in that case. I'm not really sure what you can do to improve the process. Sorry

But even that shouldn't be necessary.

Lars Petersen, I'm a bit slow so can you quickly outline exactly how your network is set up? :)

When I sleep my G5 iMac it wakes up fully connected to my wireless network and to my BT keyboard, nothing else needs to be clicked.....

Original poster: you have to contact Apple about this maybe they can help you solve the problem as it shouldn't be happening...

it's a dumbass. I know it's not supposed to do that but since it doesn't much bother me, I haven't bothered figuring out what to change. (it's set to auto-connect) <shrugs> No worries, yet.
