If I convert my SIM to eSim on my 12 Pro can someone still use a physical SIM with the 12 Pro when I get my 14 Pro? I’m giving the 12 Pro to my daughter. Thanks.
Technically she should be able to so long that the sim is active and under the same carrier. Good question though.

Your eSIM is tied to your account not the phone so if you’re no longer using it then sell it, give it away, etc. as it doesn’t affect the phone.

Btw, funny how people and Apple say nobody uses physicals sims in the US yet the message boards are full of eSIM questions ha.

Thanks. So the 12 Pro after being wiped will for sure accept a physical SIM then. Correct?

I’m on the iOS 16 beta. I tried several times to use the “convert to eSIM”, but it keeps saying there was a error? I’m with AT&T. Is it because it’s a Beta of iOS 16?

If you went through upgrade channels, it should be provisioned through the carrier already. Just turn on the new phone and it'll walk you through the steps. You can convert it now in advance if you want but I don't think it's necessary. But definitely upgrade to iOS 16.

If you bought the phone outright then yes, you should probably convert now. Transferring eSIM (from major carriers) is fairly easy. If you have an MVNO, you may have to reach out to have them update your IMEI. You can check YouTube for videos on how to transfer eSIM to new device.
Thanks. What is MVNO?

Thanks. What is MVNO?

Mobile virtual network operator. It’s basically a company that repackages and resells cell service. Like Mint Mobile uses the T-Mobile network. US Mobile sells T-Mobile and Verizon service. Xfinity & Spectrum mobile both use Verizon. In the UK, GiffGaff uses the O2 network.

‘Depends on the carrier. If it is an ATT SIM, it can never be used again. So carriers will allow like a 30 day window to re-use.

So I bought my phone with the iPhone Upgrade Program and selected "replace this iphone" or whatever, which I assume pre-programs the sim to my account (I presume that is what happens during "activation".) My current phone has a physical sim. Should I convert to eSIM, or should the new phone just work out of the box? In the past I'm pretty sure I just use the new phone with the new sim in the tray (Never actually swapping sims) so I assume this process would be the same? Just do nothing?
