Apple TV just arrived in Norway, but I do miss a lot of features. Currently I have a PowerMac G5 hooked up with my TV, but I miss some features.
My suggestions for next gen Apple TV:
  • Thunderbolt/USB
  • App Store (spotify, voddler etc.)
  • Bluetooth (for wireless keyboards/touchpads)
What am I missing? What more should come to Apple TV?

The ability to play all files, such as avi, mpeg, etc, so we don't have to reencode video from items like cameras and video cameras. If I could play files on my networked drives of any format I'd have an Apple TV on every tv in the house!

My list:
  • 1080p support
  • Extended codec support
  • Built in SSD storage
  • App Store
  • Worldwide release
  • iTunes Store with all series/movies available worldwide

The above pretty much covers the majors (and I personally want most of those things too). Five other wishes I would add are:
  • normalize that USB port so that those hungry for local storage could attach whatever size storage they want and store local media there. This would also give companies like Elgato a way to offer a hardware-software combo for some app store offering (which could fullfill niche wishes like DVR functions and a slim BD player built onto the platform for those interested in such options).
  • add analog audio out so that those with zone 2 receivers can actually use their zone 2 feature. This capability is already on the motherboard- just no jack(s) for analog stereo out.
  • NAS media storage functionality- store your media on a networked attached device and the :apple:TV could access that media without a computer running
  • a return to the final menuing (UI) design of the :apple:TV1. Personally, I thought that was a much better UI than this new one
  • an "expert" menu which would allow various fine tuning options such as expanding the pre-buffer space, etc.

Frankly though, I'd jump for joy if they would just add full 1080p support for something like the existing box. By "full" I mean something that could handle pretty much any incarnation of 1080p thrown at it fully rivaling the max specs of BD, the best HD camcorders, etc in terms of the quality of what they can play (video & sound). Max Mbps. Max fps. No limitations vs. BD or other HD players. No stuttering.

Hard disk. That is why I bought the ATV1 when the ATV2 was announced.
