What do you bring to a camp-out?

I've never camped out for anything, except this one time the local Target said they had Wii's in and I promised my niece I would get her one, but that was at 5am. What about overnighters? What are the do's and do not's? I know for sure I'm just bringing my credit card and ID, no wallet.

My biggest concern is where the hell am I gonna pee
 
You realise you arent just camping overnight, you're gonna be there in the middle of summer through the hottest parts of the day. You WILL NOT have to wait for an iPhone, no way demand is going to be that high for a $600 + contract phone.
 
I worked very hard this past year in Nursing school, and I have a loooonnnggg summer ahead of me. I hope you're right, but like others said, better safe than sorry. What I'm gonna do is park backwards in a spot right in front of the store the night before, and as soon as I see people coming, I'm gonna head in line. Reason for parking backwards is that its easier to exit out if the parking lot gets crazy, and I need to be the first one to get served cause I need to be somewhere at 7:15pm

i agree with a price like that not many people are going to be rushing to the shops to buy one in huge numbers

Come off it. There wont be near that much demand and your car's gonna hit about 120 degrees inside the parking lot while you're waiting. If the iPhone was free with contract, then you'd be seeing the demand you think you're gonna see.
 
Bring one of those hospital face masks. Then tell everyone that you have TB. I guarantee you will move up a couple of places in line.

Very nice! You took a basic idea and revolutionized it. Very Jobs-like.

Here is another one -

Bring a kid with bald head and in a wheelchair and then tell everyone that it is the kids "Make-A-Wish" fantasy to get an iPhone. First place in line guaranteed!
 
Sit in your car as long as you can. Once people start forming a line get out and get one of those camping chairs, preferably with the foot rest and cover overhead. Try to sit in a shaded spot (perhaps on a shaded side of the building). Bring water and Gatorade (drink 50/50).

Why cant CE companies release stuff in the spring or the fall when its nice out. Instead they release it in winter or summer.
 
Bring a dog, like mine, and plenty of icy cold H2O.
He will protect you.

well here in seattle i doubt it'll get above about 80. you may, however, want to bring an umbrella. and yeh, that'll be an interesting quote to remember a month from now... "no way demand is going to be that high for a $600 + contract phone..."
 
Earth to target market demographic.. It's not the second coming of Christ. The novelty will be gone in a few days after ownership and it'll be a 600 dollar cell phone with neat buttons you'll sit on and break and be pissed about.

Anyway, there's certainly NO WAY demand is that high for a $500+ phone that ties you to a contract. I'm sorry, but a games console is different as it brings a whole new level of enjoyment for the people who buy them. The iPhone is simply a phone with some nifty features (that I want, by the way;)).

i thought the ps3 was a novelty but look at all the people who both those things. but yes comparing a ps3 launch to the iphone is apples to oranges. which will make it interesting.

I'm hoping this is true. I still am somehow scared that being in a big city like Houston for me will mean more of a chance I go home on the 29th without an iPhone. I know this isn't LA or NYC but I'm still gonna get there really early in the morning or camp overnight in the parking lot. I think maybe I will also stop reading the MacRumors forums as to not see all the other people talking about long lines. Or maybe I won't stop. It's difficult! :D
 
I'm going to check my store the night before at 6pm (close), and depending on if anyone is there stay, or come back at 10pm. I might just camp out in the car for the hell of it. I'm going to bring the following:

A couple of fiberfill pillows, a couple of down pillows
A comforter
A comfy pair of slippers
A change of clothes
Kleenex
First Aid kit (you never know! people could get crazy!)
A cooler with beer, pop, diet pop, gatorade, and waters (enough to offer some to any iPhone-waiting new friends)
Chips, salsa, pretzels, fresh fruit, beef jerky, popped popcorn, some candy, etc
A book or two to read, some magazines
iPod (duh) and iPod speakers
Maybe borrow a friend's laptop to see if there's WiFi accessible or at least watch a DVD or something
Collapsible chair
Sunscreen
Ballcap
Mouthwash
Deodorant
A board game or two (maybe Scrabble and Risk! I don't know!)
Wallet + money (I'm going to a store in a big shopping center, so I'll have plenty to do if I end up not being in line or get tired and give up!)

That is, if I have the guts. I'm afraid camping out might be dumb since it's not on sale until 6pm.

I have been on the fence, but my co-worker plans to camp out, so I might also. There's an AT&T by our job, so we can take turns going to the bathroom at the job and maybe even grabbing a bit also (middle of Times Square). He said he may pitch a tent. I would just bring a foldable chair and water. I've never done this before, and I have out of state guests, but they'll have to see me later. The closer we get to the 29th, the more anxious I am.
 
I think I'll sleep in a couple of extra hours and show up at the Apple Store late morning to see what's happening. Fortunately I have the day off, so the timing is perfect. I'm bringing my Powerbook (since I can pick up the Apple Store WiFi) and a book and some snacks along.
