Just to say, what things do you do on your old PPC Macs?

Everything I need to do except iPhone syncing and heavy video processing.

So that's photo edititng, old games, internet browsing, TV using EyeTV, mail, office, printing etc. etc.
I even have an XP VM through Virtual PC, slow but it works.

When you get one you'll find out just how much can still be achieved with PPC ;)

Cheers :)

Hugh

Have access to all my old mac files and programs, some of which go back to the year of our lord 19 hundred and 87....

Have fun installing abandonware and new PowerPC stuff from this forum like Arctic Fox, playback 720p video with Coreplayer (1.67 ghz Powerbook G4)to shock and amaze onlookers...

Drive myself completely batty installing Debian 10, then uninstall it, then try it again and again....

I try to use my 700MHz iMac G4 (currently running tiger) as much as I can. For the most part I use it for Mail, creating Word and PowerPoint documents on Office 2008 and simple web browsing; it's a smashing machine to use.

What do you mean by that exactly... Is Debian 10 really slow or buggy?
Been thinking of installing it on my iMac G3 600mhz snow.

you can even install Leopard if you want, and play 720p movies!
I was thinking of installing leopard, but I’m okay with tiger for now. My iMac is the mid range model (700MHz, 256MB, which has been upgraded to 768MB and a combo drive, as well as an airport card) I’ve tried playing video on QuickTime as well as VLC, and works surprisingly well. After being in the attic for about 9 years i was surprised the NVRAM battery still works!

I’ve also used it for some games, such as Ottomatic and Simcity 3000.

Oooh, speaking of iMac G4s, I have one set up with the little Pro Speakers in my living room as a stereo. It's wired into the network to pull music off our home server. Those little things sound and look amazing!

They do! They look like they’re from another planet and the sound quality is great.

My old (and currently only) mac is a late 2012 mac mini with the 2.3Ghz i7, 16GB RAM and 2 SSDs (my upgrades).
Up till recently I was using it for editing, but as I am looking to buy a new computer and Apple keeps defecating on its potential customers here in Greece (for example the upgrade cuts were never brought for the machines sold here), unless something changes soon it is going to be my old and only old Mac. I did think what I was going to do with it in this case and I really don't know. I guess I could try to sell it, or perhaps just put it in storage, I still have its box etc in like new condition. It's not like I used it that much since I bought it back in 2014 anyway.

So, that's my answer to the original question.

The working version of The OpenBSD Wiki includes an install guide, along with a similar style software catalog to The PowerPC Linux Wiki. Everything is really easy and straightforward to get running, from top to bottom. Not nearly as "twitchy" as Linux can be.

As soon as this damn hurricane hits the road, I'll try to get it up as soon as I can.

I'm getting ready to clean out a closet where my 7500 (w/G3 processor card, USB card--when Apple didn't make hermetically-sealed machines), MO drive, etc. resides, and trying to figure out what to do with it. I have a Graphite G4 on a spare desk (sharing a keyboard/monitor with a PC) that can handle the old PPC stuff if I need to open an old document. Need to make room for a 2007 iMac.

Have all the original boxes, manuals, etc. Hate to throw it out, but I doubt it's worth trying to sell.

I'm keeping the SE, though.

Try to sell it. If it doesn't work out, give it to one of us.

No machine, not even a Pentium II, deserves to be just thrown away.

I use the PowerBook in my sig for network admin stuff and for testing code on a RISC, big endian CPU.

I use them for all sorts of stuff. Most reasons already stated by other members here.
Mostly old games. But I browse the web on some of faster machines. I use my dual 1.8Ghz PowerMac G5 all the time. And my later G4 Powerbooks see quite a bit of use too.

If I ever need to type anything, the aluminum PowerBooks are my go to machine. Best keyboard in the world to date, IMO.

Sorry up on a mountain in southern Arizona with no internet to reply to this until now...no, not buggy. I installed it successfully once, then lost the hard drive to a head crash. Ever since I've had issues. Think I might have a motherboard problem.....
