The boxes Apple products come in are such good quality that I hate to throw them out - so I don't. Problem is I don't actually do anything productive with them. What do you do with your old Apple product boxes and how do you repurpose them?

Since stuff gets handed down within the family I have no need for the boxes, like for most other products as well. I’ll eventually recycle them.

I have 3 2010-2012 Mac Pro boxes that I kept in storage for when I sell them. Those computers were so easy to upgrade that I kept them for over a decade.

Maybe it's time to let them go. 🤪

As far as phones etc, I give them to family so I repack them as best I can so they can enjoy having the original box to go with it.

I tend to keep them for when I sell or give away my Apple devices—better presentation. They’re also good for packing for shipping (sell or repair), moving, or storage. But I think the only really compelling reason to keep them is if you think you might sell. Otherwise, only keep them if you happen to have the space to spare. I wouldn’t go trying to make space for them.

With the exception of one Mac Pro box, all of mine are on shelves for display.

The MP box is used to ship MPs and G5s between the members of the PowerPC and Intel Mac community here on MacRumors. It has all the original foam inserts. If you've ever received a G5 or Mac Pro with bent handles you may understand how important that is.

I usually keep laptop boxes, with the idea that when I go to sell the laptop I have the original box. Everything else goes into the trash.

Yep, I have a G5 box that someone sent to me to ship a MP back to them, then a few years later I got it back with a G5 in it. :D

Timely thread.

Few weeks ago, I started cleaning out a cabinet. Inside this cabinet was every iPhone box for my wife and I (every iPhone we have ever had, going back to 2010, mind you). There was also several iPad boxes, a few Macbook boxes, etc.

I finally decided enough was enough, so started opening them up to remove chargers, charging cables, etc and tossing.

When I was finished, I had 20 or so lightning cables, 6 sets of wired earbuds and countless chargers. Obviously, I hadn't needed these things when I purchased these phones, so they stayed in the box.

People like me is one of the reasons Apple quit bundling chargers.

I love a good box and Apple has good boxes. I always collected them but I never thought about using them during a resale. I recently passed down some tech to my little brother and he was surprised to find everything in the box in peek condition including all the wires and accessories, it made me realize how great it can be keeping the boxes.

It’s trash so it goes into the garbage.
Somewhere out there in America is a guy that made about $6 off of me in 2016. I had got my son a 4s for his 13th birthday and I wanted everything original I could find.

That guy had an iPhone 4s box with the warranty info booklet. I bought it.

Empty boxes sell for decent money on eBay. You throw away yours - other people make money of theirs.

Mine go in the loft as they usually have cables in them. Have always kept boxes in case I want to sell

I keep my Apple stuff forever. So really, it's only a 13 yr old MBP box and a 6yr old iPhone box atm, think a photography kit+box (30pin converter) also for an iPad2 I actually don't have anymore. Oh wait, there's a HopePod box also.

My problem is rather the Styrofoam/ box combo of Hifi gear that takes serious room up. Why not chuck them? I'm not sure if it's the argument of one day selling or being prepared, having moved trans-continental a few times.

Anyway, perhaps end of the month it could be finally time for a new box.

If you're my neighbours, throw the box away with stuff like perfectly good USB-C to Lightning cables inside. I'm so glad I went through their rubbish. :D One I had is actually dying, so I've had a right result.

I keep them all and the retired product goes back to its original box and is stored in my collection of other things I also collect besides Apple products (Game Consoles & Old special Nokia & Sony Ericsson phones)... am I considered a hoarder in this instant?
