What do you guys think of Squaretrade?

Hi guys,

I have a rev. B coming in tomorrow and as much as I love the MBA I'm very concerned about the hinges. I know to avoid using hard cases, don't open the screen to much, and handle with care but I'm still worried it may break by itself. Also I know Apple may or may not replace it depending on I guess the mood of the genius so I was thinking of buying 3 year insurance by Squaretrade. Does anyone know if this company is legit?

I use Squaretrade for everything except my Macs. AppleCare is all I use for them.

I've had good luck with warranty repair on headphones, external DVD units, and even a washing machine so they're legitimate.

Squaretrade is a very good company. Keep in mind that they will only cover what the original warranty covers unless you buy the accidental damage coverage, so it's not like getting insurance or a full warranty. I have heard stories of people turning in their MBAs to squaretrade because their battery health dropped below 90% and it was replaced without question.

I totally agree. Very great stuff. I bought a subwoofer for my car and bought the $10 ST with it, great investment for 3 extra years. I have dealt with the warranty once for a Moto RAZR years back, they gave me a brand new one and I had to do just about nothing.

Use the ADH

If you buy the SquareTrade warranty within 30 days of purchase of your Mac, you can add the accidental damage and handling. That's a big plus over standard AppleCare; especially for an ultra-portable MBA. I cover most of my stuff (MacBooks, iPhones, TVs) with SquareTrade for these reasons.

Otherwise, SquareTrade covers the same things as AppleCare, though for generally less money (depending on where you buy the AppleCare--it's often cheaper on eBay). When you factor in the ADH coverage, SquareTrade is a better deal.

Note that neither SquareTrade nor AppleCare cover theft; for that, you should check your homeowner's policy (if you have one), or check out Safeware.
