Okay,,,, Im new to the whole jailbrak thing so be easy on me. I just aquired an 3g from a friend and i believe its jailbroken. (I see the app icons; Installer, winterboard, blacklist and cydia) It also has a rust colored chip (GEVEY-3G PLUS2). The phone is still running 2.2 (no picture text)
Im still using my 1st silverback iphone.
Just wanted to know is there anything i should do before i put my ATT sim card in there.

Hold up there.

Do you need it to be unlocked? Do you want to keep it jailbroken?

If yes to either of those then don't upgrade through iTunes. Doing so will break your jailbreak and any unlock on the phone.

If you want to keep it jailbroken/unlocked you'll need to use the software released by the Dev Team. Google iClarified tutorial for instructions.

he has a ATT sim, so i dont think he will need to unlock it.

However, if you do plan on selling it, you might fetch a few more dollars if its able to unlock. Meaning, dont upgrade yet to 3.1.

Give it some time play with your phone, find what you want to use and not want to use....and when the time comes, just JB with the old baseband and you can unlock it, sell it when you need.

Okay well let me get this right....
Jailbroken = using installer and unleashing a bunch of apps not offered by apple
Unlocked = using a tmobile or att sim

Yes i would like to have it jailbroken. Im using att right now. tmobile is an option. My contract is up with att. so i can go either way as far as being unlocked.
So basically your saying if i want it jailbroken, leave it jailbroken. If i upgrade i will unjailbrake it. lol

Okay last question:
Is jailbroken 2.2 as good as 3.1 not jailbroken?

You can update to jailbroken 3.1 but you need to do some research first (Google)

If you want to be able to use t-mobile, do not update to official Apple 3.1 or it will lock the phone to AT&T for good.

Can i get a video recorder and picture text with this 2.2 jailbreak?
PS I appreciate all of you guys help.
