iPod What do you think about an Android version of iTunes?

Recently I got an Android headset (Moto G with KitKat) from my employer and remembered a rumor I read here, I tought, about Apple considering to release an Android version of iTunes. That idea seems to me in some way farfetched, because in my opinion, can erode a tight and closed ecosystem controled by Apple. But, in the other hand, can expose to more people the iTunes brand and experience.

What are your toughts about this, fellow Mac enthusiasts?.....

Not going to happen. I think you would see Amazon instant video on an ATV before iTunes on Android but that has no chance of happening either .

I think it would be great.

But I also think it won't happen.

Apple only released iTunes for Windows because it enabled them to sell more iPods. Apple only created the iTunes Store to enable more lock-in to purchase more Apple hardware (iPods, later iPhones and iPads.)

Releasing iTunes for Android would reverse that. Yeah, they might sell a small percent more music and movies; but it would significantly impact their iPhone sales.

I don't like the idea because it will be a reason for customers to move from iPhone to android and still keep their music purchases from iTunes.

It'd be awesome, but regretfully Apple won't see the point in it since it doesn't benefit them much.

Too many people seems to love the idea about an Android iTunes version. High-end, medium and even budget handsets owners find some to put as a pro in this discussion.....

Thing is, if Apple do it, can gain some brand exposure or even consumers, coupled with the Beats adquisition. But seems to me that iPhone and iDevices sales can take a hit. Not sure about how big the hit can be....

Brand exposure?

Apple is already the "most recognized brand" in the world - I don't think it's possible to get more brand exposure! (And they have waffled back and forth with Google as "most valuable brand" for a while.)

While we are just starting to see signs of Apple reducing their hard-core lock on absolute control over their ecosystem, I still doubt we'll see interoperability any time soon. Would it be nice? Absolutely. Will it happen in the next 2-3 years? Absolutely not.

It's about as realistic at this point as saying "What do you think about a Tesla with 300 mile range for $20,000?"

clear about "brand exposure", I am not referring to Apple per se, in this context my comment is rather to the iTunes ecosystem. Not being 100% of my time in USA put the things in another perspective for me....

People who whine about the lack of iTunes integration and care that much about it usually end up back on an iOS device sooner or later. Whether it's iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV.

You're not locking them out of the ecosystem when they're managing their playlists, music files, etc on a computer to begin with. You're just not allowing them to have this stuff on the go.

Why do you care whether or not people go to Android and get to keep their iTunes music library?

It'd be great to be able to move your iTunes music library if one did decide to go to Android.

The whole point is to keep people in the Apple ecosystem of course! Your not suppose to encourage them to switch over!!!

Well I suppose I interpreted your question wrong. I thought you meant a unified media browser, but for Android. In that case I think it would be great and honestly I have been baffled that Google has never done anything about this.

That was one of the major reasons I switched from Android to Apple. I looked at my iPod's and thought geez wouldn't it be great if I got all this functionality with something I always have on me anyways.

Then of course once I did that I kept moving down the integration path and ended up with an Apple TV and now 2 Macs.

Google sells a phone. Apple sells an ecosystem.
