What do you think about GPU on MBP

Even though MBP used ATI GPU for a long time but The latest SR MBP use Nvidia GPU. I think because AMD send the HD Series GPU too late.

But I want Apple use ATI GPU on MBP again because it has Avivo that help CPU decode movie codec so I want Apple use ATI GPU very much.

Well I want to know your Opinion. Do you think Apple may use ATI GPU (HD Series) on MBP again? I really want about this thing so much

The GeForce 8600GT is a wicked graphics card for a laptop - it isn't the most advanced one on the market but it certainly delivers some great performance.

Games work surprisingly well, getting decent smooth FPS.

Big improvement over the previous GPU in the 2nd Gen MBP's.

No. I like nvidia better than ATI. Plus with Apple's partnership with Intel, I doubt they will be buying products from Intel's biggest competitor since AMD just recently bought ATI.

I think the nvidia card also has on-board HD chip decoding too.

Not sure if Mac OS yet knows how to make use of it though. May be something Leopard introduces.

I'm actually really glad the new MBP graphics are nVidia. I think they've pulled ahead in terms of technology at the moment and it's good to take whatever is best at the time.

Plus, personally, the ATI brand is a little tarnished for me. I haven't had good experiences with their desktop cards and their acquisition by AMD doesn't do anything for me.

MBP GPU not suited for latest games.

The 8600m GT is certainly a improvement over the old X1600. However, even with the 8600M series, the MBP will have problems running the latest games (i.e. Supreme Commander, Stalker, Call of Juarez, Crysis, and etc) with decent frame rates. This GPU is more suitable for multimedia purposes. You'll need at least performance on par with an 8800 GTS to play the latest games.

Well because I watch movie on my Computer more than play game so much so I think ATI is better for me so I want Apple use ATI on MBP again.

You have it right. ATI was always better with video. But I still like the 8600GT better since it's faster in games and has full DX10 support. If you want ATI, just get the refurbished last generation MBP. They're still very good.

As far as performance goes, the desktop GeForce 8600 crushes the Radeon HD 2600 XT. The ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT's only saving element is that it is really cheap. I'm not sure how mobile performance is though. The HD 2000-series has been an all around disappointment as far as gaming performance is concerned.

I think you might have your facts slightly wrong here.

The 8800GTX crushes the HD2900XT. The 2900 is more comparable to the 8800GTS, though it's bigger and draws more power.
