What do you think of buying Applecare off eBay?

I don't see what could go wrong in buying Apple care from an eBay seller who's really reputable, but I also don't see how they can sell it for such a low price.

for example, just on an ebay search, I found mbp applecare for $180 shipped whereas its $239 from apple with my edu discount...

anyone buy applecare off ebay? thoughts?
 
There is nothing wrong with it. Its cheap and valid...no problems here. If anything does happen, your covered through PayPal and eBay. So just buy it!
 
I also bought a plan off ebay for I think 150 bucks (macbook)
no problems here either.
but I was wondering about the same thing...how can they offer their protection plans so cheap?

There's a *huge* margin in any extended warranty. Not just AppleCares. I think the actual cost of a $349 AppleCare is closer to $100. The rest is yummy gravy for Apple.
 
Got mine on eBay from two different US sellers. Firstly for my MBP, cost £100 including shipping, compared to £279 in the UK (around $200 instead of around $550). More recently I've purchased Applecare for my wifes soon to be bought Macbook at a cost of $149, which is around 60% off the Apple UK price for the same item. Saved the shipping this time and had the activation code emailed to me.

In short, buy off eBay instead of Apple direct. :)
 
Has anyone successfully USED the AppleCare they've bought internationally? I'm in Australia and would consider buying from US Ebay. If you hunt on the Apple website, they actually 'recommend you purchase AppleCare from the country you bought your machine' - citing differences among terms and conditions. So that has me a bit nervous! Wouldn't want to think you got a great deal then 2 years into it have to use it, and get rejected cause it's not from your country!!!
 
I bought my iMac apple care off ebay for 109 shipped. The registration worked just fine, however the fine print on Applecare's registration says to keep a receipt in case proof is needed of purchase. Furthermore, I'd think that apple would perhaps (not certain) deny you apple care coverage if proof was asked and it was shown to be a non authorized apple reseller. I don't know though, just hypothesis at this point.

I would be very intreseted in getting applecare from ebay, but when i search the uk site they only ones available for the MBP is from the states.

Can anyone confirm that applecare is still valid if bought from a different country.

Also, how do you go about registering it, is it just a code you get when you buy it?

My MacBook has had a replacement hard drive, replaced case (due to dicolouration) and two replacement batteries, all after the 1 year was up. I got my AppleCare on eBay and I'm glad I did!


Just make sure it is a legit seller with good feedback who historically has always been selling Apple stuff (if all their transactions have been knitting needles and suddenly they've switched to AppleCare, then it's probably a hacked account!)
