I am the guy in charge of my family's IT. They usually follow me wherever I go. We currently use Hangouts for our family group chat. Group texts are a mess because we have android and mostly iOS so we moved to Hangouts years ago.
What do you use to talk with your family?
Reason why I ask is - with Allo and Duo coming out and Hangouts going "Enterprise" - figure it's time to move. Hangouts is laggy, battery intensive, and I have a feeling it may not be around soon with Google putting resources into new mobile only apps. But I'm not in any big rush.
My Opinions: We'd like something multiplatform (not mobile only). Allo and Duo being mobile only are an instant nope for me because the grandparents have tablets but dumbphones. Skype has ads. Slack was too complicated to set up. I'd like to choose something that will be around for awhile, that's super easy to use (for the grandparents, etc...).
