What does Apple do with the Display Items after the next generation comes out?

Like, what happened to all the Display iPhone's when the 3G came out? The 3G when the 3GS came out, and what will happen when the 4G comes out?

Recently at the apple store I was having my bluetooth issues looked at by a genious. (jawbone prime not connecting)

The genious went to the back and grabbed a Bluetooth headset to test with, he grabbed an apple Bluetooth headset.

I said wow you still have them, he was like, "yeah we have a huge pile of new ones for replacments"

Apple keeps a fair ammount of stock for replacment items.
