seems like they will ditch the numbering system after the 8. What will they go from here after the X and XS? Frankly it’s anyones guess, I have no clue.

I hope they don’t use Roman numerals. They should switch the top tier phones to iPhone Pro and the lower tier gets 11, 12, etc.

I really hope they sack their marketing team. Who calls a phone the XS Max. To me and most normal people, this looks like the extra small Max. Their whole lineup is so confusing.

The iPad lineup
  • iPad Pro 10.5-inch
  • iPad Pro 12.9-inch
  • iPad 9.7-inch
  • iPad mini 4
The iPhone lineup
  • iPhone XS
  • iPhone XS Max
  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone 8
  • iPhone 7
The whole versioning just doesn't make sense. Four different sizes and names for the iPad, five different phones with different names and sizes. I would like to see them unify everything to make it clearer what you're buying. Just add the bloody date on the device and we will all know what model year it is, rather than this iPhone / iPhone S business.
  • 2018 MacBook (12/14-inch)
  • 2018 MacBook Pro (13/15-inch)
  • 2018 iMac (24/27-inch)
  • 2018 iMac Pro (24/27-inch)
  • 2018 iPhone (6.1-inch)
  • 2018iPhone Pro (5.8/6.5-inch)
  • 2018 iPad (9.7-inch)
  • 2018 iPad Pro (10.5/12.9-inch)
Then you just update the year, assuming an annual update cycle, even if it's just a spec bump to some of the higher end models. Then we all know what we have and what's coming. The change from iPhone 8 to iPhone X to iPhone XS
just doesn't make sense to me.

For now, the numbering system. The reason I say that, is because the numbering system still shows the hierarchy of the iPhone And devalues the older models. I don’t know how long they will use the numbering system for, but I believe that’s what will be next.

They won't drop the numbering for a while now, this year was a great opportunity and they made the decision not to. I just hope they go with 11 and not XI for next years phones.

I like:

iPhone (Xr)
iPhone Plus (XS)
iPhone Pro (XS Max)

And people move to a year system like they do cars.

That would make retail boxes look cluttered.

This has been posited before but there's no way Apple does this with iPhone. The numbers drive sales as they make it easy to know "I don't have the newest one".
