What does it mean when my screen is like this?

it stays like this when turned on, the regular bong sound is heard, but the screen stays as above. and the hard-drive makes odd noises, kind of clunky.
whats up with it if anyone knows?

i only just got it back after the logic board went for the second time.
it's a G4 iBook 12.1", 1.2GHz, 256MB ram, as is early 2005 update.

could it have been the magnet from my Elgato EyeTV DTT aerial?

try zapping PRAM;
When you restart it, hold down Cmd+option+P+R, and wait till its 'bong'ed 4 or 5 times. After the last one, let go of the keys. It might fix it.

If it doesn't, restart using the system disks, and check the status of the HDD in Disk Utility. If it says your HDD is fried, as dpaanlka says, you'll need a new one.

Or it just needs to be erased, reformatted and reinstalled. You can check the File structure by running a "Repair Disk" on the same Disk Utility.

ok the PRAM thing does nothing.
have now booted from the os disc, but i cannot access the disc utility panel

If it's making clunking noises, that's probably not going to help, nor is it advisable to do (it may work for a month until a file is written over the bad sector again).

Whoops....I overlooked the "clunking" part, I dont know where my head is

If it is making clunking noise and the Disk Utility will not open or stops responding (or the hard drive does not mount) then the hard drive will need to be replaced.

ok thanks for the replies guys, good job i backed up everything but my programs today then.
i cant boot into the disks directly to acces the disk utlity, so i suppose its a new hard-drive that i need
