Resolved What does this icon (command symbol within a window) in the menu bar mean?

In MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019, macOS Catalina, Version 10.15.7), I see an icon on the righthand side of the menu bar. Clicking on it showed the pinwheel for a long time. Eventually it went away, but the system was sluggish. And I had to Force Quit the system to restart.

The icon I am talking about is the one on the bottom right in the image below.

What does this icon mean?

I don't know, I just happened to recognise that one.

There is no one list of menu bar icons, as any app could potentially have one. Your best bet is to click on each and work out what app it’s for.

Most importantly…if you don't need it on the menu bar you can "Open Keyboard Preferences…" and uncheck "Show keyboard and emoji viewers in menu bar".
