See this icon on random photos. Sometimes it's highlighted in blue. No idea what it means. Went to Apple Store and none of the employees could tell me what it means. Any ideas???

That’s the symbol you will see when you have the Photos Capture Outside The Frame enabled in Camera settings. If you go to edit the photo and select the crop icon you will see the larger image that was taken and you can expand the frame to get something that you might have missed when you took the photo.

Thanks @papbot! So technically that icon should show up on every photo I take then since I have the feature enabled in my camera settings? And when I edit those photos the icon will turn to the blue Auto grid star?

I think it varies. I have not had it appear on interior shots. I believe the blue Auto appears to signify it has properly oriented the photo, I’m a little unclear on this perhaps someone else will chime in. I had read that once you’ve made your crop edits and saved, the additional background that was captured is discarded. If you don’t make any edits it is retained for 30 days and then discarded.
