Near a Mac since 1993.
Looking to buy a DL DVD burner, but I'd like it to be one that is Apple "shipped/supported".

Some of the most popular, like the DVR-110 is does not show up this way, which makes iMovie not burn like it should.

I saw a good deal on a Sony DW-G120A, and wonder if any of the G5's ship with it.

In any case, what model DL DVD burner came with your G5? Thank you much for the info. It will help me find the best drive!

Thank you for the link, very neat app. Unfortunately it does not go into specific model numbers of the drives.

This info is reported in the System Profiler and can be different from machine to machine.

My Quad came with the Pioneer 110...It is the same drive below:

That's great. For some reason most of the reports on xlr8yourmac, say the 110D is not fully supported. Maybe this was updated with 10.4.5.

Or maybe the 110D needs to be cross-flashed to a standard 110.

I'll go ahead and get one of these. I just wanted to make sure that someone had received a G5 with a 110 before I got it. This way I know it'll be "Apple shipped/supported".

PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-110D:

Is what can in my G5. Also if you are worried about it working or not, I would check out macsales.com

http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/optical-drives/superdrives/powermac/

Also I bought that one off of newegg.com and it works great in my PowerMac G4 and the one off of newegg.com is the same from macsales.com so it will work with your G5...Just make sure you change the slave/master mode.

I'd recommend the Pioneer 110D most people are linking to. I put one in my G5 (it's an older one) and it works great. I haven't done any DL burns yet, but I've been extremely satisfied with it otherwise. I'll also add that it is very quiet. Note, you will probably need to run PatchBurn before you can use the drive.

edit- also, the quad G5 I used at the Apple store had a 110D according to the system profiler.

Patchburn was something I didn't want to do, but as ipacmm noted, it now ships with the quads. That means no patchburn and no flashing.

Thank you all for the great input!
