Thinking about getting an eGPU to help power my dual LG 27UD68 4k monitors. Have a top of the line 2016 15" MBPtb. Also want to get third 4k monitor, maybe a 42" because it will be further away.

Here's what I'm leaning towards:
RX 580 - Only $322 at the moment
Mantiz Venus enclosure - saves me from buying a dock which I was probably going to do, plus has a slot for an SSD which is awesome.

Two main questions:
1. Is this card adequate for 3x4k monitors? (maybe a 4th 1080p monitor too)
2. Heard there's little to no Adobe egpu support, so how would this work with Photoshop on one of the external monitors? I read somewhere that people were having issues.

The main motivation for this is lately there's been some mouse lag with the dual 4k monitors when scaled. Seems to have started a while ago and really became noticeable after the Intel security update a few months ago.

This won't be used for gaming or entertainment, mostly web design & development with occasional video editing.

Thanks!

Don't really understand the differences between the dozens of RX 580 cards!

If you're looking for a supported configuration I would suggest reading the Apple support document here : https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208544

The RX580 is certainly supported.

For me a key thing is being supported by Apple going forward. There are lots of people complaining about the lack of NVidia support (which provides CUDA for acceleration in Adobe apps) however those people seem to have very selective and short memories... Apple hasn't focussed on NVidia cards for years and has an AMD strategy. So you'll see benefit in Final Cut Pro from an RX580 but little/none from Adobe apps I believe.

There is some unofficial patches/drivers/support for NVidia and if Photoshop/Premiere/other CUDA apps are your thing then take a look at the pages on http://egpu.io for information.

Thank you @DavidDoyle. Yes, I'm definitely looking for official Apple support and plug & play. Don't have time to mess with patches or drivers.

Anyone have any experience with Photoshop & Adobe products using an eGPU?
