What events could possibly bring D750 successor?

Hello guys,

would you happen to have an idea (those who follow Nikon) as to when one could expect Nikon to update their D750, please? I'm waiting for an update as I'm not terribly in rush and I was waiting for Photokina & Photoplus events but nothing there. Seeing that I don't follow anything, what are the likely scenarios Nikon might use for an update? Ie. what even should I be looking forward to?

Any ideas, please?

AFB is right. The D750 is a mighty tool. There will always be a new one round the corner. You have to decide if it does what you need then it is good enough. What if it doesn't come until CES in January. You will have missed out on two months of shooting in the meantime for a likely minimal uplift in spec. A camera of that level is going to give you lots of headroom for growth and a 760 is likely to give some upgrades that you may not be interested in and a couple you are. There is the risk that the price will drop but it won't plummet. For example Amazon are still selling 5d mk iii bodies at £2000. They were only £2,300 before the mk IV was announced. So assuming the d750 follows this then not too big a drop but you will be a happy snapper in the meantime and maybe we get to see some shots from you on a comp????

What about a refurbished model? Can we even get those in the UK? That would save some cash, still be a saving And then if the new one comes out, less remorse as you will have made a saving??? Just a thought.

I couldn't be happier with my D750 after 18 months. If I wanted (could afford!) anything better I don't believe I'd get anything better out of a D810 or D5.
Sometimes I think we all get a bit hung up on the gear!

When the D90 came out I thought that the video capture was a nice addition. Since then Nikon has been playing catch up to Canon in the video capture feature. I'm guessing that they will give the predecessor to the D750 a bump in video capturing. Something probably in Live Mode will take place. Maybe longer video capturing. The D7200 has the touchscreen, bluetooth, GPS, so maybe that will be added too?

I don't think I've ever used the video on any of my DSLR's. it's just not me.
As for Bluetooth it's incredibly slow for file transfer. GPS I'd have off by default as it's not something that would speak to me.
Touchscreen would be a useful addition. But mostly I use the viewfinder.

To answer your question - Nothing. Most likely I will not need the upgraded body for several months so waiting is not an issue. There are reasons for me to wait though:

The purchase will be long term, ie. I wanna buy the best for the buck that will last me a long time. Right now I have D90 and can easily wait for the update. The D90 + 50mm 1.4 failed me with some out of focus issue which I have discovered after that in some cases there are issues with this combination which I wasn't aware.
Regardless, if there is an update, I would wait for few reasons. I could get the new one and have even more stuff in. OR I could pick up D750 and will save even more money. If I buy the D750 today I will not really use it at all and might only take it with me to NY but that could probably be the only time I would really use it. I don't think I really need the camera before April but even then I can still survive on D90. I will however need it in september 2017 when I am most likely going to another portrait etc. photoshoot somewhere by mediterranean sea so perhaps getting it 1-2 prior that to get used to it would be needed.
However, I'm a beginner that is doing these workshop photoshoots to learn and improve so its not something I do for living or something that is totally crucial. Its just something I enjoy and hope to continually and gradually improve over time.

I hear you on the doing it for enjoyment. That is me too. I work in IT so this is my stress relief. That is up to the point where I get a base image then can't get it how I want it to look in my mind of course.

If you are in no rush which it sounds like is the case, then cool hold off... yes that D90+50 was a right gotcha wasnt it. Glad we pointed you in the right direction though to know it wasnt user error.

Still though.... post some pictures... beginner you may be but begin your journey. Come on, dont be intimidated by how good the Bad Guy is...

I think the difference you'll see from a D90 to the D750 will be massive.
However in real world circumstances the difference between a D750 and D760 will be very subtle and probably not even noticeable.

The D750 is a great camera. Any successor updates will not be that significant. Besides, if you do wait for the D760, then why not wait for the D770. You can play that game forever and never enjoy the benefits of a new camera.

The D750 is a great camera. Any successor updates will not be that significant. Besides, if you do wait for the D760, then why not wait for the D770. You can play that game forever and never enjoy the benefits of a new camera.

You are right, I did start this around january I think and eventually the only thing that I missed was the workshop in september as on my trip to india i didn't really take many pictures as i focused heavily on video so didn't take a lot of pics. Other than that nothing was missed as i had crunch at work for most of the time.

I really didn't buy the D750 for the video. Coming from the D90, it was just like having an extra feature incase. I have played with the video on D750 and I have to say that it's truly awesome. The footage I captured in low light is great.

@Freida What I thought about before moving to D750 was that I didn't want to move unless I had fast glass or basically the lens I wanted to shoot with. My D90 still works but it had a nice check list of "wishes". Like I wished it focused faster in low light. I wished had better video capture (which wasn't huge) but I needed a list to justify getting the D750.

Is the successor just around the corner? Only Nikon knows for sure.

Future proofing? A camera is a tool...nothing more. It's what you do with it that really matters. If you don't have it then you're doing nothing.

I think the other point I'd make is if you hold off buying until your going on a trip to use it, you risk not knowing your camera as well as you could and messing things up when you can't go back.

I just found this, release timeline for past models, maybe make a guess from that and set a cutoff date, would make sense to see a d810 update before a 750 with the chronology there but some models appear to have jumped the cue. Seems "reasonably consistent" with what's there as far as upgrades go though, at a quick glance anyways.

Also. Having watched the Apple release today and the price in the UK of the new Mac book Pro, current pricing may be preferential if Nikon charge an uplift like Apple just did. All Mac book pros are now £2,000+!!! For a tricked out 15" you are talking almost £3K... Which is a joke!

Yes, absolutely correct. Unfortunately I won't have the funds for another 2 months anyway as I'm going to NY and NY before xmas costs a lot and UK is so low. Damn timing
