I searched and didn't see this so hopefully this hasn't been posted yet. Under the "Upgrading to 3.1? Read This" option in Cydia, there is the following:

"saurik has been working on a system for doing OTA upgrades from one version of the firmware to a new one.

This requires the encryption keys to access the various firmware versions. Sadly, no one has been able to help him get the firmware keys for 3.0.1, especially on the 3G. :(Help?"

What does this mean? I'm assuming this has something to do with the new "Make my life easier" option in Cydia but is there more to it than that? Is he working on a way to allow us to upgrade to the 3.1jb without having to restore to 3.1 first and then re-jb?

You can't of searched very hard...at least 3 or 4 posts on this in last 24 hours.

Edit: You are correct, I stand corrected.

Sounds like he want to do so, but as he was not successful with 3.0.1, which was a minor update, he may not be successful with 3.1 which is a larger update.

I'm not referring to the "Make my life easier option" - I already know what that is and I've seen the posts about it. I'm asking about the OTA upgrades.

I know he was working on a process to do this with 3.0.1 so people could just automatically add the minor changes that 3.0.1 brought along instead of installing the software and then having to jailbreak all over again. It looks like he was not able to get it working, but it doesn't matter since 3.1 is out now anyways.

I highly doubt this would be possible for 3.1, so I'd just consider this something he was working on in the past to make our lives a little easier that didn't quite work out.
